Lots of talk of snow for the folks farther north. However, those of us along the immediat Gulf coast and Florida will feel the effects of this storm as well with severe weather possible...

Severe weather threat discussed by the NWS Lake Charles special weather statement:

V1227 PM CST THU DEC 11 2003

...THREAT OF SEVERE WEATHER FRIDAY NIGHT AND EARLY SATURDAY...

SEVERE WEATHER WILL BE POSSIBLE FRIDAY NIGHT AND EARLY SATURDAY
ACROSS PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS AND SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA.
EXPECT A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WITH ITS ASSOCIATED COLD AND WARM FRONTS
TO MOVE NORTHEAST FROM SOUTH TEXAS INTO OUR AREA SATURDAY MORNING.
THIS COMBINED WITH ABUNDANT GULF MOISTURE AND A STRONG JET STREAM
RACING OVER LOUISIANA WILL ENHANCE THE THUNDERSTORM THREAT
BEGINNING FRIDAY EVENING. NOT ONLY WILL HAIL AND TORNADOES BE
POSSIBLE...BUT THERE WILL BE A CHANCE OF HEAVY OVERRUNNING RAINS
FURTHER NORTH ACROSS PORTIONS OF INTERIOR SOUTHEAST TEXAS AND CENTRAL
LOUISIANA. THESE CONDITIONS WILL ALL RELY ON HOW THE SURFACE LOW
PRESSURE SYSTEM TRACKS ACROSS THE AREA.

BY EARLY AFTERNOON SATURDAY...HIGH PRESSURE WILL RIDGE INTO THE AREA
IN THE WAKE OF THE STORM SYSTEM BRINGING COOLER TEMPERATURES AND
BRISK NORTHWEST WINDS OF 15 TO 25 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS.

THE STRONG WINTER JET STREAM WILL BRING THE NEXT STORM SYSTEM TO THE
AREA ON TUESDAY.

These storms could very well rob the moisture from the areas up north that are discussing snow. I have seen it happen before. It will be interesting to see how that plays out.
