Summer Australian Storms leave wheatbelt homes in the dark

#1 Postby senorpepr » Thu Dec 18, 2003 1:27 pm

About 1,000 homes across Western Australia's wheatbelt are still without power after severe storms swept through the region yesterday afternoon.

About 30 powerpoles were flattened by 100 kilometer per hour winds - some houses were also unroofed.

The wild weather caused flash flooding and tree damage throughout the wheatbelt and Great Southern.

Western Power's Peter Winner says crews are working today to restore power to homes.

"Power supplies in much of the area from Wongan and Ballidu, across to Koorda, Muckinbudin, down through Meckering through Northam and Beverley, York, there was quite extensive damage to the power system, power supplies [were] interrupted," he said
