URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED
TORNADO WATCH NUMBER 13
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1025 AM EST TUE FEB 24 2004

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF

CENTRAL FLORIDA
COASTAL WATERS

EFFECTIVE THIS TUESDAY MORNING AND AFTERNOON FROM 1025 AM UNTIL
400 PM EST.

TORNADOES...HAIL TO 1.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND
GUSTS TO 70 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE
AREAS.

THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS ALONG AND 50 STATUTE MILES EITHER SIDE
OF A LINE FROM 40 MILES NORTH NORTHWEST OF SAINT PETERSBURG
FLORIDA TO 40 MILES SOUTHEAST OF DAYTONA BEACH FLORIDA.

REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR
TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH AREA.
PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THREATENING
WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE
WARNINGS.




DISCUSSION...STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO INTENSIFY OVER CNTRL FL AS WARM
SECTOR TO THE SOUTH OF OUTFLOW BOUNDARY DESTABILIZES. DEEP LAYER
SHEAR IS SUPPORTIVE OF ORGANIZED STORMS INCLUDING SUPERCELLS AND
SMALL SCALE BOW ECHOES WITH ISOLATED TORNADOES AND DAMAGING WIND THE
MAIN THREATS.

AVIATION...TORNADOES AND A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL
SURFACE AND ALOFT TO 1.5 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE
WIND GUSTS TO 60 KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO
450. MEAN STORM MOTION VECTOR 26030.

I am right in Ground Zero I guess you could say Tom.. Kissimmee/St Cloud.. very few signs of severe weather. Bright sun and a couple gray clouds.. But nothing too bad yet

It has been thundering most of the morning here... haven't seen the sun at all. The sun only adds instability to the atmosphere.

Yes it does Tom.. It's sunny and very HOT here.. almost 80.. I am a little nervous {see developing weather situation thread}.

I may spend most of my day by the tv or the comp. My stupid weather radio is all screwed up lol

It is "only" 64°F here and I am even southeast of the frontal boundary.

I am listening to NOAA Weather Radio now.

"Normal programming has been suspended in order to broadcast severe weather information."

LOL.. that's all they ever say when a weather warning is out lol..

I wonder what the 2pm update will have on it.. If you happen to hear it.. please feel free to post the info..

A NEARLY STATIONARY OUTFLOW BOUNDARY IS PROVIDING THE FOCUS FOR
STRONG AND POTENTIALLY SEVERE STORMS ACROSS CENTRAL FLORIDA THROUGH
THE AFTERNOON. A FEW STORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING LARGE HAIL
AND DAMAGING WINDS IN THE WATCH AREA AS THEY MOVE EAST AND ENCOUNTER
AN INCREASINGLY UNSTABLE AIRMASS OVER EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA. ISOLATED
TORNADOES ARE ALSO POSSIBLE. IN ADDITION...PERSISTENT RAIN WILL
ACCUMULATE ONE TO TWO INCHES MAINLY NORTH OF THE ORLANDO METRO AREA.

OVER THE MARINE AREA...STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO MOVE EASTWARD FROM THE
LAND AREAS OFFSHORE. BOATERS PLANNING TO VENTURE OVER THE COASTAL
AND ATLANTIC WATERS MAY EXPERIENCE WIND GUSTS EXCEEDING 35 KNOTS

A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS FORECAST TO DEVELOP OVER THE GULF OF MEXICO
ON WEDNESDAY AND MOVE NORTHEAST TOWARD THE STATE. STRONG WINDS AND
INCREASING LIFT IN THE ATMOSPHERE WILL ALLOW FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF
STRONG TO POSSIBLY SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER CENTRAL FLORIDA ON
WEDNESDAY. RESIDENTS AND VISITORS IN EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA SHOULD
REMAIN ALERT TO THE POSSIBILITY OF SEVERE WEATHER DEVELOPING ON

The last time I remember a special update was on 2/22/98

Right before the 11pm news they warned of a possible tornado outbreak. That was scary :eek:

I have arrived at school and am safely in the library. I have been checking the skies non stop.. there are some nasty clouds out there.

A few mins. ago.. I even thought I began to see the formation of a funnel cloud. It may not have been, but it was pretty low in the skies..

More updates as the afternoon progresses
