Huge Waves and strong Rip Currents hit Emerald Coast

#1 Postby FWBHurricane » Fri Jun 25, 2004 8:20 am

We went to the beach yesterday and storms in the GOM caused waves as high as about 7 feet causing strong rip currents. The red flag was going up along beaches in Fort Walton and Destin. I was surprised nobody got hurt, all these tourists were jumping into the water, totally ignoring the red flags. Some were surfing too. Over the past few months we have had about 10 drownings for rip currents.

I was surfing at the Pensacola Beach Pier in May on a "red flag" day and the conditions were downright mellow.
