Beach Advisory

#1 Postby GalvestonDuck » Mon Jun 28, 2004 8:51 am

Yuck! One of the major drawbacks of flooding rains -- all the "stuff" that gets washed into the Gulf waters. It clears up after a while and at least they warn us of when it's a problem.

I still hate knowing that Robert Durst threw dismembered body parts out into that water. At least they're out now.

Interesting that you posted that, a similar advisory has been issued over here for fecal matter in the water  .

State: health concerns over Cypremort water

CYPREMORT POINT, La. (AP) — State health officials are warning people to stay out of the water at this popular coastal community for the time being.A new Department of Health and Hospitals report says taking a dip at the popular spot on Vermilion Bay could make some people sick.

The state began its summer sampling of the water at the Point, Grand Isle and Fountainbleu State Park last month, according to the DHH Web site.

The no swimming advisory was issued this weekend because of a "potential health risk," particularly to those in poor health.

Water samples along a three-mile stretch were tested for fecal contamination, according to health officials.

"The presence of enteric bacteria is an indication of fecal contamination, which may come from stormwater runoff, livestock, pets, wildlife or human sewage," the report said.

A spokeswoman for the St. Mary Sheriffs Office said signs along the beach warn swimmers.
