Severe Weather Chances for the Midwest (July 29-.....)
Thursday July 29- It looks like showers, isolated thunderstorms will continue in front of the cold front. The rain showers/thunderstorms should stay below severe limits with the limited instability, weak shear. But they will put down around .5 of rain. Heaviest amounts should be from the arrowhead of MN, southward through WI, extreme southeast MN, and through central and eastern IA. Other T'storms will be possible in western SD/NE, some severe thunderstorms are possible in this area with moderate instability, and moderate storm shear available predicted.
Friday July 30- Thunderstorms will be ongoing in central SD and western NE producing limited amounts of rainfall. Both ETA and GFS have these storms intesifying in the afternoon over eastern SD/NE. But GFS does have these storms weakening before the evening over western MN/IA. Overall thunderstorms should be over parts of IA,MN, and WI by evening and continue moving east/northeast overnight. Limited instability will once again hinder severe thunderstorms, with cloud cover expected most of the afternoon and dewpoints around 60. Rainfall rates will be moderate with up to an inch of rain possible. Overall severe weather threat will be where the shear is highest in parts of WY, NM, KS, and OK.
Saturday July 31- Early showers/thunderstorms should be ongoing once again in WI and the UP of MI. These storms should continue moving northeast and out of the midwest by afternoon. Leaving calm conditions over the entire midwest.
EXTENDED: Sunday-Wednesday
The heat and humidity look to return to the midwest. Temps will reach into the 90's throughout the Dakotas and NE as well as into western MN/IA. Dewpoints look to reach into the uppers 60's and even to the mid 70's throughout the week. No major disturbances look to move through the area during the first part of next week. But GFS likes to develop small areas of rain during the evenings. This is most likely the computer having favorable conditions for thunderstorms, but is not quite sure where to put them and how strong. For now very small chances of rain, but will have to wait to become more sure on this area of the forecast.
