PUBLIC HEALTH ADVISORY

La Marque - A Boil Water Notice has been issued for residents of the Bolivar Peninsula. The notice is a result of a break in the main line providing water to the community.

To assist residents with this notice the Galveston County Health District provides the following guidelines for disinfecting contaminated drinking water:

· If cloudy or muddy, strain it through a clean cloth

THEN.

· Bring water to a rolling boil for at least two minutes

An additional method for disinfecting water is as follows:

· Use 8 drops of plain chlorine bleach (5.25% Sodium Hypochlorite) per one gallon of water
· Mix well for one minute
· Let stand for 30 minutes
· A slight taste or smell of chlorine is normal

Residents should be aware that once repairs are complete and water is flowing through the line, it is not safe to consume until laboratory tests confirm its purity. This Boil Water Notice will remain in effect until such time that officials have declared the water safe for use.
