I live halfway between Houston and Galveston. This is about 15 miles from the Gulf. I have not had a drop of rain since June. There has been rain north and west of me, but none here. Here is the typical pattern.
When there is a chance of rain for the day the Gulf storms form in the morning and move ashore. They die out w/in a few miles of the coast. About midday more storms will start to form to the west and north and they move to the ne. This has been the pattern for the last few years, as I have been paying closer attention to it. The only summer rain we get after June is from a tropical system. Even the last two cold fronts that came through a couple of weeks ago didn't produce a drop. There was a solid line of rain coming. Just as it passed downtown Houston, it fell apart. It reformed just south of us and continued on for hundreds of miles into the gulf.
Do I just have bad luck or is this some type of weather pattern that I will have to endure? My water bill is almost as high as my light bill because I can't stand to let the grass die. I thought about trying a rain dance, but don't want to scare the neighbors.
Can someone explain this weather please?
