WINTER STORM WATCHES AND COLD SIDE OF STORM

#1 Postby WXBUFFJIM » Sat Apr 05, 2003 8:40 am

Tremendous ice problems in NY state with Rochester and Oswego just to name a few places are under a state of emergency and even federal disaster aid is likely in this situation. Can you imagine actually needing to go to a warming center just to warm up? Unfortunately this ice event has them all and unfortunately there was one ice related fatality west of Boston this morning

Looking ahead, we have more misery in the midwest including in Chicago later on this weekend as a storm system develops and slowly moves to the south of the Chicago and Quad Cities area where a winter storm watch is in effect through Sunday night into early Monday for those areas. That means the potential for 6-12 inches of snow for the Quad Cities and 6-10 inches in Chicago Sunday evening through Monday AM. I did mention that both areas would see likely snow amounts of 6 inches or more yesterday even before the WSW was issued. The snow will combine with wind gusts to 30-35 mph, which may cause near whiteout conditions later this weekend for the midwest. Even lower Michigan could see up to a foot of wind whipped heavy wet snow just to add to the misery from the ice storm they had recently. Even northern Indiana could see heavy wet snow as well. Some amazing stuff as we head into April 6th, 2003 tomorrow.

More frequent updates FOR SURE.

Jim

Yeah, it is amazing. I am driving through Oswego today, and I hope to get some pictures to post on the forums. They are saying that power may not be on for days. Here in the northern part of the state we got by with mostly snow, about 10 inches, but I think that we were the lucky ones.
