Severe Thunderstorms roll through Houston

#1 Postby Guest » Mon Apr 07, 2003 1:32 pm

Sitting here at home today - sick with sore throat and fever and we are getting hammered by a severe thunderstorm - lost electricity for 20 mins and got wind and rain. Looks like more to the west.

SEVERE WEATHER STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
251 PM CDT MON APR 7 2003

...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING CONTINUES FOR HARRIS AND FORT BEND
COUNTIES UNTIL 330 PM CDT...

AT 247 PM CDT DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM IN
RICHMOND AND ROSENBERG...MOVING NORTHEAST AT 25 MPH.

LOCATIONS IN THE PATH OF THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM INCLUDE
ROSENBERG...RICHMOND...PECAN GROVE...MISSION BEND...ADDICKS...AND
SPRING VALLEY.

AT 240 PM 3/4 INCH HAIL WAS REPORTED NEAR BEASLEY.

THIS STORM CAN PRODUCE LARGE DAMAGING HAIL...RESULTING IN EXTENSIVE
PROPERTY DAMAGE OR SERIOUS INJURY. AVOID WINDOWS AND TAKE COVER NOW!

DRIVERS MAY ENCOUNTER DAMAGING HAIL...STRONG WINDS AND BLINDING RAIN.
PULL OVER TO A STRONG SHELTER NOW. BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES ARE NOT
SAFE!

PLEASE REPORT SEVERE WEATHER TO THE COUNTY SHERIFF...LOCAL POLICE...
OR DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY. THEY WILL RELAY YOUR REPORT TO THE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE.

A TORNADO WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM.

And I live just N of Spring Valley! More and more thunder as it gets closer and closer. Not a fast mover which I don't like since it could dump flooding rains or massive amounts of hail, which it already has a history of with golf ball size hail.

Can we say TRAINING SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS? Looks like a real possibility for today. Everything is lining up SW-NE near the coast to about 100 miles inland. We are gonna have fun!!NOT!!! I'll try and get pictures if it gets bad here. Saw your stuff going through on radar earlier Ticka. Almost IMed you, but figured you were at work.
Sorry to here you are "under the weather". Get well soon!

The storms seem to be training over the same areas in the south louisiana. I've picked up a little over 2 inches at my house but to the south and west of the they've had 6-8 inches in spots. Another storm just moved through and there are more on the way...phew!

It looks as though the storms are filling in to our WSW. There could be flooding problems in and around lafayette later this evening http://www.srh.noaa.gov/radar/loop/DS.p19r0/si.klch.shtml

after a short break from the rain, it's falling once again. I hear a thunderstorm headed this way. The ones late this afternoon were horrible.
