A lady was killed by a tornado in Hardin County today. :(
That's not too far from here. There are reports of other tornadoes in the area too.

Hardin County authorities say a woman was killed when a tornado moved across the area this afternoon.

In a live telephone report at 6pm, Hardin County Chief Deputy Kenny Davenport confirmed the death. Davenport told KFDM the woman was killed when high winds caused a tree to fall onto a home on FM 2593 off of Highway 92 in Northern Hardin County.

Powerhouse supercells racing E at 50 toward SE TX just S and E of San Antonio. Very wicked storms on radar.

Earlier today it was amazing to see the supercell develop E of Houston and move NE into LA creating destruction. Its still doing damage currently near Alexandria, LA

Those supercells could remain either supercells or evolve into bowing segments. Don't think you're done over there in Houston because those storms could easily make it into town in 2-3 hours with tornadoes, damaging wind, hail, and heavy rains. I doubt we've seen the last of the severe wx in Houston. Keep an eye on those storms.

I agree with you WXBUFFJIM. Watching the supercells just come into range on the HGX radar. Moving very rapidly E and ENE.

Isn't this a weak EL Nino year?? I have not followed it very closely since the hurricane season begun. I got to wrapped up in the hurricane landfalls across Florida, hoping TX would be spared of any activity.

It might have something to do with it. I'll tell you one thing, when it snows in the TX Panhandle and we see a upper system as vigorous as this with huge surface temperature contrasts, it really can get quite wild and that's what we're seeing tonight. Houston is not done yet at all, I'll say that right now. One more severe line to come for Houston with posible embedded supercells and tornadoes tonight.

Don't let that Fool you Yankee Girl. The squall line moving into SE TX is very dangerous. A few times during the year I put together a severe weather kit.....similar to a hurricane kit but only for a short term emergency. So far God willing it has never been used. The few times the weather conditions reached dangerous levels (tornadic storm/straight line winds of 70-80MPH) we were at work during the week. Sure we live SE of Houston in Galveston County but even we can see tornadic weather albeit not very often. These El Nino years can bring interesting weather to the South.

I will never forget the 1992 Thanksgiving tornado outbreak for SE TX.

It has been strengthening rapidly. What are the chances of it falling apart before it reaches here? This line doesn't look like it will miss me.

Nasty Squall line moving in...

#13 Postby Houstonia » Tue Nov 23, 2004 9:26 pm

That "dry line" moving in from the west looks WAY nasty. Fortunately, it also looks narrow and like it is moving fast. Hopefully it will be out of our way before too many more hours have gone by.

I've had enough nasty storms and rain to last me a while - up here in Northwest Harris County, we've been getting it rough. I was hunkered down in my hallway with my cat boxed up yesterday!

As I said earlier yankee, get ready. You got a dangerous squall line roaring into Houston in about 2 hours with wind gusts over 70 mph, large hail, isolated tornadoes, and deadly lightning.

Also any flooding rains that you folks received will likely be aggreviated with this line of storms. We're not done in Houston at all tonight. Get ready for severe weather in 2 hours in Houston.

That line is the cold front SG. This line is likely to hold together and strengthen through the overnight. It could make it into Louisiana and Mississippi overnight with isolated tornadoes and a big threat for damaging wind gusts over 70 mph. Be prepared for this dangerous squall line. Houston in 2 hours, Beaumont in 4 hours.

That was a memorable one KatDaddy. We had just bought our house a few weeks before and then lost our roof during that outbreak. We heard a thunder rumble that wouldn't stop and I pulled the old deer-in-the-headlights deal staring out of the back window at the funnel headed right towards us. Thankfully we didn't sustain a direct hit. Ever since then I get nervous whenever the wind gets above 10 mph. I HATE being such a WUSS!

Please keep it or send it north, not east!

I'm in Lake Charles and they keep moving the warning boxes to and fro across the Sabine. We don't know if we're gonna get a hit or miss. It's pretty much been the story for the past two days. :raincloud:

Nor will I forget that one!!!! I saw the F5 that was over Kelliwood!!! It had a very distinct wedge shape to say the least. We were on our way home when I saw it from a overpass over the Katy Fwy. About the time we got home and in the door it came close enough to us that the debris was flying evrywhere.

I am currently waiting for the MCD Updates on the Outlooks. The squall line will leave Texas and go into Louisanna. There is a quasi-stationary Linear MCS in Central Louisanna where the strongest storms are at now. As that line comes into that band of storms, look for more Bow-Head type tornadoes (Though some could still be strong) This will also help to intensify the squall line even more and probably cause it to move even faster. There will be lots of reports of damaging winds overnight and into tomorrow morning. Could even have the makings of a Derecho type event.

There will still be tornadoes in storm clusters to the East of this activity. That activity will become more linear in nature as you get into East Alabama and West Georgia.
