I was in Lumberton during the storm this evening, and I was almost blown off the road as well, we were all having to drive 15 mph south highway 69. sitting at a stop light then hail started falling, with the high winds/rain, then BAM, I was once sitting at a light waiting for it to turn green, then im seeing nothing but head lights, luckily the power came back on fairly quickly...the lightning was so fierce and frequent that you had to pay extremely close attn to the road because it was consistantly blinding you. As I was going down 69S, I saw a power line short out directly to my right, causing a transformer to blow, then a few seconds later, shorted out the lines just down the road again.. one of those eerie blue glows you see all the time during Hurricane coverage! One of the most spectacular events i've seen in a LONG time.. I'm sitting here w/o power since 10:30 in Orange County, listening to the thunder rumble and rain pour once again. Man it's nice having laptops

jason...I was on the freeway coming from Central Mall area to near Keith Road. It was an horrific drive!!
hurrican...I hear ya! The wind was fierce. I thought it was a tornado at first. It almost blew me off the road too and debris was flying everywhere.
For those who don't know, Lumberton is just a couple of miles north of Beaumont...and both were in a severe thunderstorm warning.
Welcome jason and hurrican to storm2k!! It's GREAT to see two new people from my area! Stick around for hurricane season.

what happened to NW Harris County?
I was at a friends house for most of the evening (just got him - 3:32 a.m. - been playing Spades and Horse Thief all evening long). I heard some wind, we got a lot of rain, but driving home, it looks like things have calmed down a lot.
Did we miss it? Did it come across and I just didn't notice it with the a/c on, X-box blaring on the TV and loud conversation? We seemed to have barbecued right through the storm!!
... which was FINE with me!!

Wow what fast moving storm. I estimated 45-50MPH winds in western League City but have seen the storm reports for League City, Friendswood, and Pearland. Also a tornado was reported in Houston.

There is at least on tornado confirmed from the storms last night. The damage I saw on the tv appears to be F1, but I have not seen a report or even looked for one. I do know they were planning to check it out today. At the peak of the storms there were 130,000 without power and still are 16,000 w/o power. Hopefully we will only have pop ups this afternoon.

There are storm reports around here of dime-sized hail, golf ball-sized hail and even baseball-sized hail! Thank God I didn't have to drive through THAT! A tree crashed through a home and into a playroom where two little sisters had been playing moments earlier. The mom had just taken the family into a closet in the back of the house before the tree fell. Not only did it damage her house, but it crushed her car. Thank God the little girls were safe though.
Out driving today, I saw debris everywhere. Limbs galore, signs knocked down, etc. I can't imagine what a hurricane would do to this area. Stay away from here, canes!

Sorry to leave some of the local folks kind of hanging last night.
Had to spend the evening at work (running on backup power) until about 100am with near flooding on Halls and Garners Bayous and concern for lower White Oak and its tribs. Incredible rainfall rates and very impressive bow echo. Another hour of rainfall and we would have had very serious flood problems.
Next event (MCS) looks to be Wed. show the NAM and GFS verify.
Never in moderation around these parts always feast or famine.
