The roof collapsed at the Home Depot here in Galveston.

Oh no, your poor car!!
I hope the floorboard dries out and you have no other problems with it.
I heard that Harborside was flooded, and I heard that on the Strand, water was up against the door to the Railroad Museum!
Be careful, okay?
Took me over an hour to get to work, through driving rain. The street in front of our building here (Live Oak and McKinney, down the street from the George R. Brown) is starting to flood, and I don't think I've ever seen that. But the rain has just been coming down too hard.
Heard that Hitchcock was getting it hard too.. so much for my archery shoot tomorrow.

Yup, the Railroad Museum, which also houses some UTMB employees (the Medicaid crew), gets flooded a lot also. I have pics somewhere from when it got flooded a couple of years ago out there. I'll see if I can find them.
I don't really have to worry much now that I'm safe and at work and only live two blocks from work anyway.
But the lightning!!! Forgot to mention that in my earlier post. It was horrible and way too close a couple of times. That was my biggest concern.

Rain rain rain.... I was afraid to look at Braes Bayou this morning- I knew my office woudln't let me take off just because I migth not be able to get back home. White Oak bayou at I10&Stude is up over the concrete- first time I've ever seen that.
Heights Blvd is experiencing minor flooding, mostly on the side where people are allowed to park. We had an incident at work because one of our employees refused to pull up in the drive way to make room for everyone- the drive is dry, but the parking on the street is beginning to flood.
Like I said yesterday- if it had kept up the drizzle... I think the bayous could have handled it- but it's coming down harder even in the off time between the nasty stuff. If this doesn't let up by 5- I don't think I'll be able to get home.

GalvestonDuck, I sure hope you stay dry. It looks like Galveston got hit pretty darn good this morning. Unfortunately (as we all know) more heavy rains will be in the area for the next few days and possibly longer. Stay safe!
From what I am seeing models are all over the place with the precip. There is one big thunderstorm blob West of Houston which seems to be expanding. I'm looking at the radar loop and it seems to be moving in and East Northeasterly direction. On top of that we have some showers and thunderstorms moving in from the North Northeast out near Livingston and Huntsville and these storms are moving in a South Southwesterly direction. I might be wrong but what worries me is if the storms moving Northeasterly and the other storms moving Southwesterly merge together over the area. That might not happen but if it does then it will be one big mess. Check out the radar loop below.

That is interesting. It looks like we have a stationary vort center just between us and Lake Livingston with the majority of the rain on the South and Southwest side of the system. anyway you look at it, it isn't moving hardly at all and we continue to have building in and streaming storms/rains from the West. If this continues for the next few hours we could be in a major flood situation by this evening. Everyone in the Houston/Galveston area and SW LA needs to keep a close watch on this situation IMO. I know I am!!

Wheeee...
AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
835 PM CDT FRI JUN 25 2004
...POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS FLOOD SITUATION DEVELOPING FOR SATURDAY...
.DISCUSSION...
WHAT ELSE CAN BE SAID EXCEPT THAT IT IS GOING TO RAIN ACROSS ALL OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS...AT LEAST. UPPER TROUGH REMAINS IN POSITION OVER WEST TEXAS INTO CENTRAL TEXAS AND WITH WEAK VORT MAXIMA ROTATING THROUGH THE MEAN TROUGH...ADDITIONAL SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS...SOME WITH VERY HEAVY RAIN...ARE LIKELY. RIGHT NOW...THERE IS A LULL IN THE ACTIVITY...BUT WE ARE EXPECTING REDEVELOPMENT...PARTICULARLY OVER THE SOUTHERN HALF OF THE CWA LATER TONIGHT. IT LOOKS LIKE THE HEAVIEST RAIN WILL BE GENERALLY ALONG AND SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 10. CURRENT ZONES LOOK TO BE IN GOOD SHAPE...SO NO UPDATE WILL BE NEEDED TONIGHT UNLESS THINGS CHANGE DRASTICALLY.

EARLY THIS MORNING INTO NORTH TEXAS BY THIS EVENING. AS IT DOES SO...
WIDESPREAD SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP OVER
SOUTHEAST TEXAS BY MID MORNING AND CONTINUE INTO THIS EVENING. SINCE
SOME STORMS MAY MOVE REPEATEDLY OVER A LOCATION AND WITH A MOIST AND
UNSTABLE AIRMASS IN PLACE...LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL IS LIKELY. THE
HEAVIER RAINFALL SHOULD BE MORE INLAND THAN HAS OCCURRED OVER THE PAST
FEW DAYS. THIS WILL POTENTIALLY LEAD TO MORE WIDESPREAD RIVER
FLOODING OR URBAN TYPE FLOODING THAN HAS OCCURRED.
GENERAL RAINFALL TOTALS OF 2 TO 4 INCHES WITH ISOLATED AMOUNTS OF 4 TO
8 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS MOST OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS TODAY AND
TONIGHT. LOCATIONS ALONG AND NORTH OF A LINE FROM MADISONVILLE TO
LIVINGSTON CAN EXPECT RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 1 TO 3 INCHES.
WITH AN ALREADY SATURATED GROUND SURFACE...ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAINFALL
WILL LEAD TO A SERIOUS FLOOD THREAT FOR THE SOUTHERN TWO THIRDS OF
SOUTHEAST TEXAS. OVER THE LAST FEW DAYS...RAINFALL AMOUNTS HAVE
AVERAGED 2 TO 5 INCHES ALONG AND SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 10. SOME
LOCATIONS IN JACKSON...WHARTON...GALVESTON...MATAGORDA...AND CHAMBERS

UP TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS. DO NOT STAY IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOODING
WHEN WATER BEGINS RISING.
REMEMBER...DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS
THE ROADWAY! THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO
CROSS SAFELY. VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE ABANDONED
QUICKLY. IF YOUR VEHICLE STALLS...ABANDON IT AND SEEK HIGHER GROUND
IMMEDIATELY. RAPIDLY RISING WATER MAY ENGULF YOUR VEHICLE AND ITS
OCCUPANTS AND SWEEP THEM AWAY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.
STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE
WARNINGS CONCERNING THIS FLOOD THREAT.
Well they have now extended it till Saunday at 6 pm... Everyone got their arcs finished???
