It's been raining cats and dogs here for too long but it's just a light rain now. I'm a few houses down from Brookside Village in Pearland, which is in Brazoria County.

I have no idea how much rain we've had total but I have about 2 inches of standing water in the yard. I don't care for all the rain but it sure is nice to have cooler weather and a nice breeze after such a long, hot summer.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
344 AM CDT MON OCT 16 2006

.DISCUSSION...
VERY DANGEROUS HEAVY RAIN EVENT UNDERWAY

HIGH PW AIR IN PLACE WITH PW VALUES AOA 2.5 INCHES. UPPER LEVEL
WINDS ARE STRONGLY DIVERGENT AND SURFACE WARM FRONT EXTENDS FROM
ABOUT HONDO TO TOMBALL TO PORT ARTHUR. EXPECT PRECIP TO CONTINUE
TO REGENERATE THIS MORNING AS DEEP UPPER LEVEL TROUGH OVER NEW
MEXICO PUSHES EAST. KHGX VWP SHOWS TREMENDOUS SPEED AND
DIRECTIONAL SHEAR SO THE TORNADO THREAT IS REAL...BUT THINK THE
PRIMARY HAZARD WILL CONTINUE TO BE HEAVY RAIN AND FLOODING. THE
AREA WILL LIKELY RECEIVE AN ADDITIONAL 2 TO 4 INCHES OF RAIN THIS
MORNING WITH ANOTHER 1 TO 3 INCHES THIS AFTERNOON WITH THE UPPER TROUGH.

TIDES ARE ALSO ABOVE NORMAL AND THIS IS COMPLICATING THINGS. AREA
STREAMS AND RIVERS CAN NOT DRAIN EFFICIENTLY SO WATER WILL BEGIN
BACKING UP ON AREA WATERSHEDS. CAN NOT STRESS ENOUGH HOW DANGEROUS
THIS SITUATION IS!!!

THE TROUGH AXIS SHIFTS EAST TONIGHT AND TUE SHOULD BE RELATIVELY
DRY. NEXT FRONT ARRIVES WEDNESDAY NIGHT WITH ANOTHER CHANCE OF
RAIN AND COOLER TEMPS FOR THE END OF THE WEEK. ANOTHER FRONT NEXT
SAT OR SUN. DID NOT SPEND A GREAT DEAL OF TIME ON THE EXTENDED
PORTION OF THE ZFP.

FLOOD WATCH WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT THROUGH 4 PM AND MAY BE EXTENDED
IF THE TROF AXIS SLOWS DOWN. DAMAGING WIND/TORNADO THREAT WILL
PERSIST ALL DAY AS WELL. 43/40/32/44/36

Multiple reports of major flooding are starting to flow in. Bayous across the area are filling quite quickly.

Hard to sleep when the emergency bell keeps going off. So far almost 10 inches since earlier this evening. Reports of rescues taking place in parts Brazoria county...

I hear you on the sleep issue, Scott. It's been raining hard here with a lot of thunder and lightning. With all the tornado warnings in the area, I just can't go to sleep. Every time I think it might let up a little, I see another cell creeping up from the SW to take the place of the one over me now.

Do you know any details on the rescue? I pray it goes well...please keep us posted if you hear anything.

There were reports from the BCSO about rescues going on near Holiday Lakes, just outside of Angleton. Makes sense as that area is notrious with events such as this...

Can only imagine what the news reports will be in the morning. The tide issue is a MAJOR concern with respect to the bayous across Houston. Not a good sign.

I can't emphasize enough how dangerous this is beginning to look. Thought we might have a break, but looking down towards Victoria does not bode well. The radar is nothing short of crazy.

Wake me up -- It looks like a land falling TS....

And you're certainly not one to hype anything!

I keep thinking there's going to be a break as well, but it never seems to get here. I think I see an end in sight in the GOM, but it keeps filling in. It's still pouring here.

LOL...Yeah Kelly, I usually spend time trying to calm folks down...;)

But this is looking serious for all of SE Texas. I can't believe how the radar is filling in down by Victoria and streaming towards Houston, along with what is coming off the Gulf into your area.
