You did a good job out there Tim esp for your first chase and as you said....you learned something too. Gawker, I don't think that term fits him & the people he was with at all. I've chased affiliated with the media, ema, and on my own and I like the freedom of being alone because I can come, go, do whatever I want when I want and that gives me room to move anywhere without being held back by other agencies. Every time you go out Tim you'll learn more and more plus getting lost on those back country roads can be interesting at times....never know who you'll meet out there....nope I am not saying anymore.

Yes you did hear 132 confirmed fatalities for Joplin. I received the following today from a met friend. It explains more about why the Joplin tornado received the EF5 rating.
As much coverage as I have seen of this tragedy it still blows my mind.

Joplin tornado had 225 to 250 mph winds at one point. That is the NWS estimate. Feel free to share this info with the rest of the forum.
Hard to believe that we'd see winds again of near the old F5 level
Also, the hospital was hit when the tornado was at EF4 intensity, I doubt it would have survived at all (if you can even say it survived) had the tornado struck it at peak intensity
As much coverage as I have seen of this tragedy it still blows my mind.

If they were using the old F-scale, those would be estimated at more than 290 mph, perhaps as high as 320 mph...
