Looks cold for Florida next week but not the epic freeze the models were showing just 24 hours ago. So Florida’s luck may continue for now...

Not surprised to see the Euro trend warmer from its colder solution. Like I said it has been better than the GFS but still is prone to error in its medium-long range.

Also today’s 12z run is hinting that just like last months cool week we will quickly rebound in 8-14 days.

we're going to have multiple days of raw weather with well below normal temps and breezy conditions. I've got 3 sub 60 highs flanked by 60ish highs. unpleasant garbage by any measure. But no freeze...which is pretty much meeting what my expectations were all along. And now that we've skated through December with no freeze we're about a third of the way through the freeze season. It looks like we should be moderating back to or a tad above normal by the 10th or so...all of which suits me fine.

The extreme solutions/deep freezes are baloney but the below normal temps are very real.

Well we hopefully will not get any temps into the teens like the models showed yesterday. However, we still will likely get hard freezes over North Florida. Temps down as low as into the mid 20s are possible for a few mornings mid to late week. That's plenty cold enough and very significant for yours truly.

Also, there is a chance of getting a wintry mix across the Jacksonville area, which I discussed earlier this morning as a surface Low(1010 mb on this afternoon's 18Z GFS) develops just off the Florida East Coast. There may be just enough moisture spreading over the cold dome of air to the northwest of the Low Pressure system to give this small window of opportunity on Wednesday . I will.monitor that closely. NWS Jax mets finally mentioned this potential in their AFD late today.

It usually is down here, especially when you don’t get much of it. Like for instance when local mets hype up low 60’s and upper 50’s for overnight lows as cold, that’s when you know it’s been warm!

The GFS has gone colder especially day 7-8 but we know the drill.

Looks like it continues to show 30s for Central Florida for 3 nights in a row. So despite no freeze it is way below normal.

Looks like the 18Z GFS ensemble mean is a little colder as well for the arctic front for Florida next week.

As was said before, there is a reason why Florida looks so different from top to bottom, and I think that'll be proved out again here. I just drove from Charleston SC back to Miami, and it was very interesting to see how it got warmer as I went south. SC was bitter cold in the mid to upper 30s. Even in Jax, it was near 50 degrees and a bit rainy. Orlando, mid 50s low 60s and cloudy, which persisted until about the St Lucie-Martin county line. Then the clouds broke and the temps inched up. 70 at WPB, then by the time I got to Miami, it was 80 degrees.

:uarrow:
Yes, only had a max temp here yesterday of 49 degrees measured at my home station. Today will be the last "warm" day we will have here in Jax for probably at least the next week. Max temps today may get to the low 60s if we are lucky with more sunshine today.

However it is downhill going foward beginning tomorrow. Max temps tomorrow mid-upper 50s.

Max temps Monday near 50. Max temps Tuesday and Wednesday 40-45.

Clouds and potential precip with the developing Low Pressure area off the coast on Wednesday may keep temps much of the day staying in the 30s potentially over NE Florida looking at the thermal profiles on the 6Z GFS run this morning.

:uarrow: These are max temps again to emphasize.
.

Low temps are expected in the mid 20s inland North and Northeast Florida late upcoming week.

The GFS has gone colder. The Central Florida freeze threat is still a real possibility. 37F for Miami.

Well, with the sharp amplification of the upper trough being analyzed by the GFS today lends credence for temps to possibly get colder late this week into next weekend, even down in South Florida.

There is some impressive cold already well entrenched across the Northern Tier. of the CONUS poised to plunge south. This is one of the chief reasons on why the cold outbreak will be very significant next week. Despite the +NAO right now, we have quite a very strong +PNA to offset that . We also have anomalous ridging over Alaska forecast into.next week. So, when you have these factors in play, you will get 500 mb heights to drop drastically over time. This can establish a prolonged period of dumps of Arctic cold from Siberia to get dislodged southward.

This is a situation in which the arctic cold ALREADY was dislodged beginning last week to current. The pattern now is locked in place in which we will see the air masses keep getting re-charged and dropped South down east of the Rockies deep into the CONUS.

So, until we see the PNA relax and get back into at least a neutral, and better yet, a negative index, the very cold spells could last at least through mid January across the Eastern CONUS.

At the moment, some of the coldest temperatures across the world are over the North America continent. for the current time. The temperatures across Canada are just insanely cold right now.

Well over here in the Abaco Islands the dew point is currently 65 while where I live in SE Florida it’s 55 with a temperature of 60 at noon! Here it’s a sort of warm 76.

Looks like the GFS is continuing to trend even colder for next Saturday morning as of it’s 12z run.

Yes the GFS is trending colder. Freeze for Central Florida with 36F in Miami.

Well at least that GFS depiction is a reasonable non destructive event. It's actually something that should happen several times each winter. Nevertheless I shall cheer against it...
