Woke me up!! We got marbles that accumulated. No damage except a few twigs here and there. I took out a measuring reel and measured a half inch diameter.

Nothing like the ping pong balls we got four years ago next week!

The Portastorm Weather Center in scenic southwest Travis County picked up about a quarter of an inch of rainfall along with about five minutes of pea-sized hail. Fun night!

No hail here, but we did get a quarter of inch of rain.

Yes they are, which is why I look like :grr: when my fellow Canadians, from Montreal and Ontario, whine about their lower than average  temps.

To add insult to injury we are now getting cold winds from the SOUTH. :grr:

Forgot to add, I could hear the hail coming from in the distance (from inside the house near a window). It was getting progressively louder until it hit. Never heard that before with hail, just rain.

Very eery sound at 3:00 in the morning when no other noises are present!

I posted the following in the SE TX/SW LA thread. I think the same cell that caused the hail in Austin may have done this.

Some areas to the W and SW of Houston were hit with a severe hail storm early this morning. Damages are in the millions in the Columbus, Sealy, Brookshire, Katy and Sugar Land areas with The Brookwood Community, a live in and working community for the developmentally disabled estimating a minimum of $2M to their green houses and living quarters. I only had some claps of thunder and 0.16" of rain, which might get us up to 0.50" of rain so far this month. If the current trend for rainfall continues we are in MAJOR TROUBLE with us looking at a drought even worse than 2011!!

For a change I got to see PICS of what is happening down there (I'm guessing not one of you fellows owns a camera???) :http://www.theweathernetwork.com/news/storm_watch_stories3&stormfile=Hail_covers_the_ground_like_snow_in_Texas_20_03_2013?ref=ccbox_homepage_topstories

Sure looks strange seeing white stuff and Texas type cactus in the same pic.

I own a camera, but I am not normally out at that time of the morning (3-5) and we really weren't expecting anything that severe, plus it was 60 miles West of me. I know, excuses, excuses. :cheesy:

That picture of 183/183A on the link is right down the street from my house! Just noticed that. There were drifts along the highway yesterday. Looked like snow!

I have trouble uploading pics onto this site. How do you do use imageshack?

Or this last year in the metroplex. It was such a hassle getting my insurance to inspect my car cause the wait time was ridiculous.

Sad thing was, it was already a problem from the first hailstorm (that tornadic system in April dropped prolific hail too). Hoping 2013 is nicer...

Yeah, really! Would be nice.

I guess a "silver lining" (if there is one in this) is that hail has water in it. :ggreen:
