The Winter Storm Watch that was in effect for the Northwestern 2/3rds of North Texas has been reduced in coverage and is currently in effect for the North Texas cities of Gainesville, Decatur, Jacksboro, Bowie, and Graham.

But from the future forecasts, we're still not gonna see an end to the wintry mix-up.

The National Weather Service has downgraded the Winter Storm Watch to a Freezing Rain Advisory for persons in Cooke, Eastland, Jack, Palo Pinto, Stephens, Wise, and Young Counties until 6:00PM CST Saturday.

NWS - Fort Worth wrote:AN APPROACHING UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE COUPLED WITH COLD TEMPERATURES
WILL RESULT IN SOME LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS OF FREEZING RAIN TONIGHT
THROUGH SATURDAY. TEMPERATURES TODAY WILL REMAIN ABOVE FREEZING
BUT WILL FALL BELOW FREEZING TONIGHT AND REMAIN AT OR BELOW
FREEZING THROUGH MIDDAY SATURDAY. LIGHT FREEZING RAIN IS EXPECTED
TO DEVELOP WITH ICE ACCUMULATIONS LESS THAN ONE QUARTER INCH
EXPECTED.

A FREEZING RAIN ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF FREEZING RAIN OR
FREEZING DRIZZLE WILL CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. SLOW DOWN AND USE
CAUTION WHILE DRIVING. BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES WILL BE THE FIRST
PLACES THAT ICY SPOTS WILL DEVELOP. DO NOT SLAM ON THE BRAKES WHEN
APPROACHING AN ICY BRIDGE OR OVERPASS. INSTEAD... MAINTAIN A
CONSTANT SAFE SPEED AND COAST ACROSS THE ICE. IF YOU START TO
SLIDE OR SKID...CALMLY STEER IN THE DIRECTION OF THE SKID TO
STRAIGHTEN THE VEHICLE OUT AND REGAIN CONTROL.

We won't get another round of wintry precip at least until Monday, but the threat of flooding is likely for DFW. Other than that, we'll slightly warm up to the 50s by Wednesday.

The National Weather Service has replaced the Freezing Rain Advisory with a Winter Weather Advisory for the same areas mentioned on the last post. This goes in effect until 6:00PM CST Saturday or earlier.

Here's some good news, all winter weather alerts that were in effect for some areas of North Texas have been cancelled, however there's still a possibility of sleet mixed with rain today. Of course, it's not enough to cause any traffic tie-ups.

NWS - Fort Worth wrote:THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN FORT WORTH HAS CANCELLED THE
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY THAT HAD BEEN IN EFFECT FOR NORTHWEST PARTS
OF NORTH TEXAS. SIGNIFICANT FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET ARE NO LONGER
EXPECTED.

ALTHOUGH SOME BRIEF PERIODS OF SLEET CAN BE EXPECTED TODAY...
TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN ABOVE FREEZING. ANY SLEET THAT
DOES FALL IS EXPECTED TO BE MIXED WITH RAIN AND WILL QUICKLY MELT
ON THE GROUND.

After over a week's worth of wintry mayhem, we finally see the sun again and temperatures are begining to warm up, but not before another strong cold front sweeps through the North Texas area as mentioned in the North Texas AFD.

NWS - Fort Worth wrote:ONCE AGAIN...COLDER AIR AND CLOUDS WILL MOVE INTO NORTH TEXAS
TONIGHT...AFTER A BRIEF INTERLUDE OF SUNSHINE. NEVERTHELESS...THE
NEW WEEK WILL NOT CARRY A THREAT OF FREEZING OF FROZEN
PRECIPITATION. THERE WILL BE LOW CHANCES FOR RAINFALL FOR THE MID-
WEEK PERIOD...AND ONTO NEXT WEEKEND...AS SEVERAL UPPER LEVEL
DISTURBANCES MOVE ACROSS THE AREA. THESE SYSTEMS ARE NOT QUITE AS
STRONG AS THE LAST FEW THAT HAVE TRAVERSED THE AREA...AND MOISTURE
AND INSTABILITY WILL BE LIMITED. THUS...ONLY SLIGHT CHANCES FOR
LIGHT RAIN ARE IN THE NEW FORECAST.

According to the Dallas/Fort Worth climate summaries, this has been the 2nd wettest January on record since El Nino came into the scene. So far, we've gotten 5.58 in. of rain, including 0.30 in. of snow this month, so I think we've more than covered our rain deficits...I think.

Now with Winter Weather out of the way, we can see a warming trend in the North Texas region, but it's not gonna be long before another cold front pushes the temperatures back into the 40s on Sunday. On Friday Night, we'll see some thunderstorms in the region, however we're not expecting anything severe at this time.

I knew the warmong trend won't last long. By Saturday Morning, high temperatures will rise to the upper 40s and will either remain steady or fall to the 30s once a passing cold front comes through North Texas.

Tonight and Saturday, we'll see a chance of thunderstorms, mainly after midnight and will slowly switch over to light showers by Mid-Saturday afternoon. Not expectying anything heavy at this time. Another cold front will pass through the North Texas area, bringing highs on Sunday down to the mid 40s and will slowly rise to the 50s throughout the week.

Despite some afternoon showers Today, and Tuesday through Thursday night, we'll see high temperatures going up and down like a roller coaster. Looks like we won't be warming up for another 2 weeks...at least. Oh well, it gives many of us North Texans an excuse to sit near the fireplace and have a steaming hot drink. :ggreen:

We had pea sized hail here in Northern Rockwall county. It caught me by surprise as I was outside doing some yard work.

According to DFW this is why:

THOUGH AN ISOLATED LIGHTNING STRIKE IS POSSIBLE...RAPIDLY FALLING
FREEZING LEVELS BEHIND A SOUTHEAST MOVING POLAR COLD FRONT...WILL
RESULT IN PEA TO MARBLE-SIZED HAIL AND WIND GUSTS TO 40 MPH WITHIN
THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY OF STRONGER SHOWER ACTIVITY.

Only felt a few rain drops this afternoon. Not many of us saw that hailstorm comin'.

Anyways, next weekend is REALLY gonna get cold as highs dip into the upper 30s to near 40 on Saturday, so all you North Texans may wanna bundle up. :jacket: If necessary, stock up on some hot cocoa mix, hot apple cider, or soups.

The Nationl Weather Service has predicted yet another round of Winter Weather starting Wednesday after another Arctic front sweeps through the North Texas region.

NWS - Fort Worth wrote:...A WINTRY MIX IS POSSIBLE OVER PORTIONS OF NORTH TEXAS WEDNESDAY
THROUGH FRIDAY...

SEVERAL DISTURBANCES WILL APPROACH...AND MOVE ACROSS NORTH TEXAS
DURING THE WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY TIME FRAME AND MAY GIVE NORTH TEXAS
SOME WINTER PRECIPITATION DURING THAT TIME. A COLD FRONT WILL MOVE
THROUGH NORTH TEXAS ON TUESDAY BRINGING MORE ARCTIC AIR INTO THE
REGION. TEMPERATURE PROFILES AT THIS TIME ARE FORECAST TO BE COLD
ENOUGH TO SUPPORT SOME LOW CHANCES FOR SLEET AND SNOW TO MIX WITH THE
RAIN.

BEGINNING WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON A MIX OF RAIN...SLEET...AND SNOW
IS POSSIBLE ALONG AND NORTH OF INTERSTATE 20. BY WEDNESDAY NIGHT...A
WINTRY MIX IS POSSIBLE ALONG AND NORTH OF A LINE FROM COMANCHE...
TO HILLSBORO...TO CANTON. THE WINTER PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO
REMAIN NORTH OF THIS LINE THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING. HOWEVER...ON
THURSDAY NIGHT...COUNTIES CLOSE TO THE RED RIVER MAY SEE THE
PRECIPITATION CHANGE TO ALL SNOW. THE CHANCE FOR PRECIPITATION WILL
END ON FRIDAY MORNING FROM WEST TO EAST AS THE LAST UPPER LEVEL
DISTURBANCE MOVES OFF TO THE EAST. IF ANY ICE OR SNOW DOES
ACCUMULATE...TRAVEL WILL BE IMPACTED...ESPECIALLY ON BRIDGES AND
OVERPASSES WHICH TEND TO BE THE FIRST TO ICE OVER.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR THIS EVENT AND
MAKE NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS...AS THE SYSTEM EVOLVES. STAY TUNED TO
FUTURE FORECASTS FOR ANY CHANGES OR ADDITIONS REGARDING THIS EVENT.

Looks like this system is not gonna be bad as the previous winter systems we had the past few weeks, but I would still exercise caution should the roads ice over.

The good news is that most of the freezing precip is gonna fall in areas near the Red River. The bad news is the obvious...we're still not gonna warm up anytime soon. We are getting some rain starting tomorrow through Thursday Evening, though. Flooding is less likely, but hopefully, we'll see some reservoirs filling up from this system.

OK, I take back what I said about the good news, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Northwestern 2/3rds of North Texas. The portion in areas of Dallas/Fort Worth, Cleburne, Waxahachie, Stephenville, and Comanche will expire less than 2 hours from now, and the portion in Gainesville, Bowie, Decatur, Graham, Breckenridge, Mineral Wells, and Eastland will expire at 1:00PM CST This afternoon. The Significant weather statement pretty much sums up the morning.

We got some rain falling in the North Texas area at this hour. While the threat for flooding is minimal to none, we will see a slowdown in traffic. Also, we're continuing to see some patchy fog in some areas.

NWS - Fort Worth wrote:.NOW...

Hopefully, nothing will be iced over the next morning.

As mentioned on the Texas Winter Weather Thread, there was some rain slowly changing into snow in North Texas between 3:00 and 4:00PM CST. Accumulations were reported on some grassy terrain, but that was it, and being that the temperatures are above freezing, the snow quickly melted on the ground within contact. A few flurries are still falling here and there, but all that will go by the wayside on Friday Evening. However, our temperature roller coaster ride isn't over with yet.
