If the heat is bad here in TN (Like it is today and will be this whole week), no telling what it feels like for you guys down in TX and LA. I've been to Slidell, LA before. I LOVED it, but not the heat and humidity!

Double Post Alert from futile Northern GOMEX Blob Watch Thread:

Cloud tops are warming, as 12Z GFS prediction of poof-ation seems well underway for blob watch system in North Central GOMEX.

Lawn watering without interruption, 2 to 3 times weekly, seems to be in the cards for Southeast Texas for probably two weeks or more to come.

Last week's inch of rain from a distant Dolly already wiped by mid to upper 90s temps (35ºC), full sun, and lower than normal dewpoints.

12Z GFS shows no appreciable rain in HOU before August 11th, (ditto the 18Z GFS, BTW). By appreciable, I mean anything over a tenth in a day, which ain't that appreciable. And if it takes two weeks for the GFS to drop a total of about a half an inch of precip, my waterbill is in trouble.

If the thread title stays unchanged for a few weeks, it'll eventually become appropriate again.

Well we keep missing the tropical thunderstorms around here and only picking up .10" or less when it does rain. We're about 4" below for the month and with the intense heat of July we've gotten really dry around here. The last time we had over a half inch of rain was on July 6th. Hopefully we get another wave to move in next week as this weekend looks hot and dry again :( . We usually get our first "cool" front by mid-late September and it can't come any sooner!!

Tell me gale. We're taking the "evacuation vehicle" to friends on Galveston Bay tomorrow. The dogs will enjoy the "big pool".

You flee Rita in that?

I guess, if one must spend 24 hours on the road to San Antonio or Dallas, a fridge and a flush toilet would make life more pleasant. I sure wouldn't trust a high profile vehicle like that as a place to stay in a hurricane, but it would make evacuating easier.

Well Ed, If you look closely in the background that is not TX. We did buy it after Rita passed the Lower Keys during our time down there. And thankfully we were on a 30 day maiden trip back to TX when Wilma hit. It sure made the trip more bearable and we were able to bring in supplies for our neighbors after Wilma. When we had to run 7 times with 3 dogs during 2004/2005 seasons, we needed some accomidations that allowed pets. That has all changed since then. Yankeegirl, it is tough to fill it it up with the price of deisel, but alas it is a home away from home for our family. But it does get 14 mpg and the 4 slide outs make it very roomy and the 8KW generator certainly is handy.

And it looks like the line of storms is trying to wash out, or at least not be quite as strong, as it reaches BMT too. At least we are getting some temp relief!

I hear ya! I lost power for a few hours this morning. Woke up to thunder and lightning and a really dark house, so I called Entergy and set the alarms on the cell phones, and went back to sleep without covers.

Before I went to bed, I saw that massive line headed this way, but wasn't certain if it was going to reach us. NWS forecast was Mostly Clear overnight, so I guess it was a surprise to them as well.
