Re: SE TX/SW LA weather: Rains came, nice rest of week

Jagno wrote:Wow, we needed the rain badly but I certainly didn't anticipate a falling utility pole, transformers blowing like the 4th of July, no electricity, no water, no cable/internet and of course sprint has a heart failure during all this. Did I mention my generator is in the shop for repairs or the RV was just brought back to the hunting camp or maybe I forgot to add that my daughter in law was sent to the hospital in all this threatening to deliver our very first grandbaby early? LOL...........what a day although my garden did get some much needed water.

Good grief!!!! It wasn't anything like that here. It must have really built up strength as it moved East!!

I hope all is well with the D-in-law and 1st grandbaby. We are expecting our 1st grandchild in early March if our daughter carries to term.

Thunder and rain at the Galleria.

I hope it is getting to my neighborhood...

Edit to add-

near miss, but we did have a shower overnight, my car had raindrops on it this morning.

Got some heavy rains with some thunderstorms also here in Spring Branch. Based on not too accurate gauges and weather bug looks like we got about an inch of rain here.

Ended up with 3.5" of rain over the last two days. We are well saturated now. Looking forward to the coolish weather for the next few days with highs in the upper 70's to low 80's and lows in the 50's.

Should be a fantastic weekend with lows getting into the upper 40s and highs low-mid 70's with more cool weather on tap next week! Around this time of year you can really kiss summer goodbye and each front becomes progressively colder until our first frost mid-late November. Hopefully we can get a good soaking tonight/tomorrow morning as aside from Gustav and Ike, we really haven't had any other significant rain since August. We're normal on rainfall for the year but things have become quite dry and crispy lately and it would be great to wash some of the allergens out of the air! My sinuses would be thankful!

Looks like a minor line of rains/storms trying to build just west of us here. Not expecting much out of it. Looking forward to see how "cold" it gets. Hopefully we won't see it as bad as Nebraska is getting it!!! :cold:

Not so minor after all. I'll take the quick 1 1/2 inches that we received from the storms

NO KIDDING!!!!! This is the report I sent to HCFCD.

Having/had an incredible thunderstorm here in Spring Branch-Hammerly and Gessner area. Calculated rain rate was an incredible 15"/hr for a portion of the storm. I timed my digital gauge for a 15 sec time and it received .06" in that time frame. Of course it wasn't that hard for the entire event which seems to be winding down now thankfully. Heavy street flooding in the area with several stalled cars. I have not found any homes with water in them, but it is dark. I will say that some areas have less flooding than the last time the Spring Shadows area had water in a few homes while others have more, which I suspect is due to debris in drains. There was some small hail mixed in also, but nothing reportable at my location. Gauge currently showing 2.2" of rain with it still coming down a steady rain.

Looked really tame prior to the start when it became obvious the storms were exploding/backbuilding or both.

The final total here at the house was 3.2" after two more rounds of heavy rain. Now the temp is dropping(59º now) and the winds are picking up.

Is this cool weather not fantastic?????? It's such a pleasure to wear winter/fall clothes. 58 at 1:30pm. I don't know if we'll see the projected high of 68.

What a beautiful weekend!

That storm earlier this week was something. I drove right through the core on the way home - when I got on the Hardy Toll Road, the sky was green with a low-hanging wall-like cloud at the base to my north, and I thought to myself 'that looks awfully suspicious'....didn't even realize until I got home it had a tornado warning with it!!

The weather couldn't have been nicer this weekend!!! Now expecting a cold front before dawn with strong winds("blue norther"??)for most of the day. High in the upper 60's with lows of 38-42 for most of the region Tuesday morning. Precursor of things to come? Last time we had a "winter" starting like this(colder than normal Nov.-Dec.) the rest of the winter was quite mild. As stated elsewhere the zonal flow that is currently predominant needs to break down before we truly get into our "winter" here.

It feels great this morning, 58 degrees and blustery with a stiff north wind. Quite a front for October that has come through with the dewpoint now at 24 and the low tonight forecasted to be 38 with 37 tomorrow night. It's been a while since I remember us getting this cold in October.

I saw that Hooks airport up in Tomball made it to 34F this morning and Conroe made it to 32F. Brrr. Its hard to believe that some parts of SE Texas were only a few degrees warmer than it was here Oklahoma!
