Nice storm with some large hail is about 5 min away from the KLSX radar site, which should hinder our ability to see whats going on behind it...at least for the next 15-20min or so -- these guys are screaming off to the NE today.

yeah, and after it hit's the radar down in Weldon Spring, it crosses the river into the Chesterfield, Creve Coeur, St Peters, St. Charles, and most of West St. Louis county!!!

You can get a Great view of the storm in St. Charles county from ILX in lincoln.. Wow I just saw something scary. A school bus going through my apartment complex, I figured that the school districts would keep kids at school till the storm blows thru.

TVS just tripped by the STL metro area storm... mdt LL rotation has been intermittant over the past several scans and now appears to be centered just a couple miles west of jhamps' location in Maryland Heights. 20z modified sounding for KSTL yields CAPE of ~500j/kg of the 'tall, skinny' variety with 0-3km SRH ~300m2/s2. Though a small CIN layer remains, the LFC has dropped almost 500m in the last hour, so even though the tornado threat is still not imminent it definitely looks to be on the increase.

I'm back. boy did I get lucky. Who knows if my car has hail damage or not, it's on the north side of my property. But there have been reports of GOLF ball size hail covering the ground in the city of Maryland heights. I was on the FAR south side of the storm, and I only had at most pea size hail, a lot of lighting, and strong winds and the temps are falling like a rock. If your looking for a good deal on a car w/ hail damage come to St. louis for the next month or so. cause I know a lot of BIG car dealerships that are getting hammered by this storm right now.

Yeah when the torando warning for st louis city came out, I forgot that I had mentioned that, cause ALL torando sirens in the entire county went off, I almost ran to my bathroom, but then I realized it was just the city and not the county.

isobar, it's heading your way.. good luck stay safe, and stay near the TV. I'm sure every tv station in Evansville is going nuts over this one. Well at least 7, 14, and 25. It's now looking pretty nice outside, except it's now 40 degrees, and 90 minutes ago it was 70.

Wow, 30º drop! I'm shivering already. It's still 65º, dp of 54º. It should be here in the next 1/2 hour. Wayne Hart of Ch25 just broke in briefly, but the svr threat seems to be diminishing. How's your car doing, jhamps?

actually, or more I should say luckily my car is fine. I missed most of the hail by 1 or maybe 2 miles. But I know one thing, in NW st. louis county, if you are needing a new car, and don't mind a little (or I should say a LOT) of hail damage, you will get some great deals. I feel sorry for insurance agents in the area right now. My car would probley be clobbered if it wasn't for the fact that my workplace had a power outage today and the whole building was shut down.

Great to hear about the storms weakening. Sounds like both of us dodged a bullet. P.S. get your parka ready, cause it's not going to be above freezing till Monday!!! :x :x :x

if you want to see some pictures of the hailstorm, you can go to fox2ktvi.com and they will be on the front page.

this is a "true" example of a strong front. If they rated fronts like they did tornadoes..this would be an F5. It is rare when you see such a widespread severe outbreak followed by a 30-50F temperature drop and when you go from record heat to record cold all within 24 hrs...not to mention the huge winter mess that will be seen in many central states (Including the southern plains all the way down to central TX). Oh yeah, and the strong winds felt in many states. Fronts like this are the best to follow..and I can't wait for it to reach me down here in SE Texas overnight!

Not an F5... would be an F3 or F4. An F5 front would be one that obliterates a town with F4/F5 tornado, followed by a blizzard just six hours before that buries the same town. Yes it has happened before. When I lived in Dallas on average every spring there would be at least 1 or 2 events where a huge squall line dropped some intense lightning and rain followed by bitter cold afterwards.
