Not surprising, but they did the right thing; one has to be careful of those nocturnal outbreaks. Still, those usually occur in fall or early spring when strong winter lows can induce a 50+ kt LLJ which will really skyrocket that low level shear. 30 kts just really isn't enough to prevent decoupling.

i wouldn't say it was a bust, i'm sure that there was for a short time a funnel cloud with that storm in Bayfield county, WI, you just wouldn't know it because it was night time. during the time of the tornado warning, there was some nice shear with that storm, and i wouldn't rule out that a tornado formed either, becuase it is so sparsely populated, it could've touched down in the woods and noone would've known. also, those storms were producing very large hail with very large hail cores, 2 storms (1 in WI and 1 in MN) had VIL's in upwards of 70 kg/m2 and VILD in excess of 6 with tops that at one point topped out at 63,000 ft. in northern MN.
