Here's hoping we ALL get some much needed rain. I can't remember the last time we had a multi-day rain even like this one about to set up. Looks like most of the rainfall here will hold off until Friday and into the weekend but that's usually how it goes!

Glad to see all the steady rain in west and central Texas today, but once again the Bear Creek Dome remains dry. Radar doesn't look like we'll see anything much through the night either, although the NWS just increased our chances from 40 to 60%. Why? All the rain looks to be headed to our north - again. <sigh>

Looks like 3 Shortwaves to cross TX the next few days. Friday looks like the best chance "locally". Happy to see so much rain in the Hill Country. The Edwards Aquifer is getting some much needed rain.

I hope to see some rain soon. Let the rain come in. Looks like Austin is about get some good rain. I am just as happy as well. They really need it more than we do. Well, all of Texas needs rain.

Looks like the 00Z GFS was somewhat right versus the NAM. Next in a series of S/W's appears to be heading more E than yesterdays events. Radar shows heaviest rains along and N of I-10. Brrr, its cold out here as well...(47* at my location and light rain starting)...

Latest from SPC...

DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1236 AM CDT THU MAR 12 2009

VALID 121200Z - 131200Z

...NO SVR TSTM AREAS FORECAST...

...SYNOPSIS...

SPLIT FLOW PATTERN WILL PERSIST OVER THE U.S. THURSDAY WITH SEVERAL
IMPULSES EMBEDDED WITHIN ACTIVE SRN STREAM. INITIAL SHORTWAVE TROUGH
WILL DEAMPLIFY AS IT LIFTS NEWD THROUGH ERN TX AND INTO THE LOWER MS
VALLEY. FARTHER UPSTREAM...A SHORTWAVE TROUGH JUST OFF THE CA COAST
WILL ADVANCE INTO THE SWRN STATES DURING THE DAY...REACHING WRN TX
LATER THURSDAY NIGHT. AT THE SURFACE A LARGE AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE
WILL PREVAIL OVER THE ERN TWO THIRDS OF THE COUNTRY.

...AZ AND NM...

FORCING FOR ASCENT WILL INCREASE ACROSS AZ AND WRN NM THURSDAY
WITHIN DIVERGENT EXIT REGION OF UPPER JET ATTENDING THE EWD
ADVANCING SHORTWAVE TROUGH. THE INCREASING DEEP LAYER ASCENT AND
STEEPENING LAPSE RATES WILL CONTRIBUTE TO MODEST INSTABILITY AND
DEVELOPMENT OF SCATTERED CONVECTION DURING THE AFTERNOON AND
EVENING. PRESENCE OF COLD AIR ALOFT AND 8 C/KM LOW-MID LEVEL LAPSE
RATES SUGGEST SMALL HAIL COULD ACCOMPANY THE STRONGER UPDRAFTS.

...TX...

A FEW ELEVATED THUNDERSTORMS SHOULD BE IN PROGRESS EARLY THURSDAY
ACROSS PARTS OF CNTRL AND ERN TX WITHIN BROAD ZONE OF ISENTROPIC
LIFT AHEAD OF EJECTING SHORTWAVE TROUGH.
A DECREASE IN CONVECTION IS
EXPECTED IN WAKE OF THIS IMPULSE. HOWEVER...CONVECTIVE POTENTIAL MAY
INCREASE AGAIN LATE THURSDAY NIGHT ACROSS CNTRL AND ERN TX AS
ISENTROPIC LIFT INCREASES DOWNSTREAM FROM APPROACHING UPPER TROUGH.

MODEST MID LEVEL LAPSE RATES AND WEAK INSTABILITY WILL LIMIT HAIL
POTENTIAL.

Should they (storms and rain) be slowly moving south during the day?

I used the new daylights shifting time on Tuesday to mow the lawn after work with my extra hour of sun, (driving to work in the dark again), as the lawn, especially in the back, was getting shaggy, and it should not be good mowing weather for a few days.

I also applied a Castor Oil based armadillo repellent. I have been one of the few homes in the neighborhood watering regularly, and the armadillo has been busy.

I saw him the other day in my lawn. Either they can't run very fast, or I'm not that scary.

The high was supposed to be 57° this afternoon... sitting at 44° at 4pm. Brrrr for March 12th!
The actual high here was 52°, but that was overnight, while the temperature was still dropping.

As for rain, we've gotten a little, but it's all been light so far.

We've had light rain and drizzle since about 2:30 pm. My garden is doing the happy dance. Like Ed, I took advantage of the morning and got the grass mowed before the rain. It's tramatizing to go from 80's to 40's in a day though. :D
