Depending on who you listen to our highs next week will be ranging from 100ºf to 103ºf starting Tuesday next week. The minimum I've seen for any day next week is 98ºf. I want to :sprinkler:

What makes me not like the pattern is that it usually breaks because of some type of "tropical" situation.... We are comparing this to 1980 weather... What was the heat breaker from that year? Any type of tropical stuff? I dont remember 1980 weather too much, since I was only 4 and living in RI... lol... Just a question....

There's no relief in site for se tx or sc la anytime soon. We all really need some moisture...big time! Image

I was reading a blog from KATC's met Rob Perillo and he said (yesterday) that we are on our 11th straight day of 90°+ temps. And today makes the 12th day.

From the Lake Charles NWS 4:23am discussion:

HIGH PRESSURE AT SURFACE CONTINUES TO REMAIN ENTRENCHED THIS
MORNING ACROSS SOUTHEAST TEXAS AND SOUTHERN LOUISIANA. AS A
RESULT SOUTHERLY WINDS...CLEAR SKIES AND TEMPERATURES IN THE
90S ALONG THE COAST TO THE CENTURY MARK FOR THE LAKES REGION
OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS AND CENTRAL LOUISIANA. THIS WILL PUT THE
HEAT INDEX ABOVE THE CENTURY MARK BY THE NOON HOUR WITH THE
HEAT INDEX EXPECTED TO REMAIN ABOVE THE CENTURY MARK THROUGH
THE EARLY EVENING HOURS. THIS PATTERN WILL CONTINUE INTO SUNDAY
AND MOST OF NEXT WEEK WITH LITTLE RELIEF FROM THE HEAT AND DRY
WEATHER ANTICIPATED.

This Afternoon Sunny Hi 96 °F

Sunday Hot Hi 97 °F

Monday Hot Hi 97 °F

Tuesday Hot Hi 99 °

Wednesday Hot Hi 99 °F

Thursday Hi 97 °F

Friday Hi 96 °F

Snipet from HGX this morning RE: just how long it's been since we've had measurable rain...

DAY 26 IN A ROW WITHOUT MEASURABLE RAIN
AT IAH. THE LONGEST STRETCH WITHOUT MEASURABLE RAIN IN HOUSTON WAS
40 DAYS FROM JAN 8 1904 THROUGH FEB 16 1904. THE LONGEST STRETCH
IN RECENT YEARS WAS 30 DAYS...MAY 3 2003 THROUGH JUNE 1 2003.

I suspect we'll break the 30 day period of 2003.

Hurricane Allen was one impressive hurricane. I was over in Mobile at the FAA office taking a test and after I finished walked over to the NWS office. Was chatting with the met on duty about Allen. Both of us thought the hurricane would pass well south of us due to a massive mid to upper level ridge. I was living in Pascagoula at the time and remember a few days when it hit 104.....MGC

It looks like part of Beaumont is getting a pretty heavy shower at the moment and a few small scattered ones elsewhere. I saw a 10% chance pop up on NWS this morning, after reading a Special Weather Statement about SE TX and Southern LA being back in a drought (Abnormally Dry on the Drought Monitor) and hot and dry conditions expected for a while.

Good luck to everyone on seeing a little water fall from the sky. Nothing at my house.

I got a laugh out of this from Lake Charles:
AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LAKE CHARLES LA
104 PM CDT SUN JUN 21 2009

.AVIATION...FOR 18Z TAF ISSUANCE...
OH MY GOSH COULD THAT BE RAINFALL OVER SERN TX? REGIONAL 88DS SHOW
ISOLATED SHOWERS DEVELOPING OVER COASTAL SERN TX AND THE ADJACENT COASTAL
WATERS AND MOVING NWD. BIG NEWS TO SAY THE LEAST. THUS HAVE
INCLUDED VCSH IN THE KBPT TAF TO ACCOUNT. WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR
IN CASE ADDITIONAL CONVECTION DEVELOPS A LITTLE FURTHER EAST
TOWARD KLCH...OR IF CURRENT ACTIVITY STRENGTHENS INTO THUNDER.
OTHERWISE JUST A PERSISTENCE VFR FORECAST WITH HIGH PRESSURE IN
COMMAND.

By the way I got all of 0.04" of rain so far today.

:uarrow:

I pretty much said the same thing when I saw the radar. It's like it just fell out of the sky.

Here's the Special Weather Statement issued early this morning:

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LAKE CHARLES LA
445 AM CDT SUN JUN 21 2009

LAZ027>033-041>045-051>055-TXZ180>182-201-215-216-211145-
VERNON-RAPIDES-AVOYELLES-BEAUREGARD-ALLEN-EVANGELINE-ST. LANDRY-

CAMERON-VERMILION-IBERIA-ST. MARY-LOWER ST. MARTIN-TYLER-JASPER-
NEWTON-HARDIN-JEFFERSON-ORANGE-
INCLUDING THE CITIES OF...LEESVILLE...ALEXANDRIA...MARKSVILLE...

JENNINGS...CROWLEY...LAFAYETTE...ST. MARTINVILLE...CAMERON...
ABBEVILLE...NEW IBERIA...MORGAN CITY...WOODVILLE...JASPER...
NEWTON...LUMBERTON...BEAUMONT/PORT ARTHUR...ORANGE
445 AM CDT SUN JUN 21 2009

...DROUGHT CONDITIONS HAVE RETURNED TO SOUTHEAST TEXAS AND
SOUTHERN LOUISIANA...

HIGH PRESSURE ANCHORED OVER THE NORTH CENTRAL GULF DURING THE
LAST SEVERAL WEEKS HAS ALLOWED TEMPERATURES TO CLIMB INTO THE 90S
WITH THE HEAT INDEX ABOVE THE CENTURY MARK. THIS HAS INCREASED THE
PAN EVAPORATION RATES ABOVE .33 INCHES PER DAY.

THE RIDGE HAS EFFECTIVELY SHUT DOWN PRECIPITATION WITH LAKE
CHARLES RECEIVING THE LAST MEASURABLE PRECIPITATION ON THE 26TH
OF MAY. THIS IS SHAPING UP TO BE THE DRIEST JUNE ON RECORD FOR
LAKE CHARLES. THE DUST BOWL YEAR OF 1936 WAS THE DRIEST WITH .02
INCHES OF RAINFALL. BEAUMONT HAD RAINFALL IN EARLY JUNE AND THIS
WILL KEEP THEM OUT OF THE 10 TEN DRIEST JUNES ON RECORD ALTHOUGH
NOT BY MUCH...12TH PLACE. THE LAST DAY THAT EVEN ISOLATED SHOWERS
WERE PICKED UP ON RADAR WAS ON WEDNESDAY THE 8TH OF JUNE OVER THE
COASTAL MARSHES.

THEREFORE...MODERATE DROUGHT CONDITIONS HAVE RETURNED TO THE
REGION. DROUGHT CONDITIONS WILL BECOME PROGRESSIVELY STRONGER AS
RAINFALL IS NOT ANTICIPATED THIS WEEK AND INTO NEXT WEEKEND. THIS
WILL ALSO PLACE INCREASING STRESS ON VEGETATION AND INCREASE THE
FIRE THREAT.

PERSONS OUTSIDE TODAY SHOULD REMEMBER TO TAKE FREQUENT BREAKS AND
DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS.

ONE FINAL TOPIC...AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES WILL CLIMB INTO THE 90S
WITH THE HEAT INDEX ABOVE THE CENTURY MARK. THE HEAT INDEX WILL
APPROACH 106 DEGREES IN SOME ACROSS SOUTH CENTRAL LOUISIANA
LOCATIONS.

Allen almost made landfall as a Category 5 hurricane. It was quite large also. It was during the heat wave. Also, later that season, TS Danielle made landfall.

The cloud gods have taken pity upon us. There's been more clouds today thank goodness. NWS says it's 97 but at least this little bit of cloud cover helps.

I saw that cloud on the way home from our son's in Cypress and I figured you might be getting some of it. The rain shaft was very obvious since it was the only one around.
