Yeah TexasF6 ... I heard about Brushy Creek. Bad stuff.

Meanwhile, we're seeing numerous road closures in Travis and Williamson counties. Swift water rescues ongoing as well. Rainfall estimates as much as 4-5 inches in the last few hours in portions of the Austin metro area. It's been quite a show! And it is continuing as of 8 p.m.

2 inches at the weatherdude center this afternoon /evening! Puddles in backyard and water in the garage first time since mid May. Brings are total since last Monday over 4 inches! Could use a little break, but thankful!:) Hope the lakes benefit(?). Classic case of "careful what you wish for.":)

I need to get a rain gauge, since I have none I don't know how much rain we have had but we have had heavy showers off and on since mid afternoon and there is water standing everywhere. We are not in a low lying area so we don't worry about flooding but hope everyone is paying careful attention because the radar looks as if this may continue for awhile.

Well to their credit, EWX said a few days ago that Sunday would be the "best" day for the Austin area to see rainfall. They weren't kidding?!

We've received a smidge short of two inches of rain here at the PWC since 5 p.m. Like some of you guys, my backyard was a lake at one point. Haven't seen that since Hermine back in August 2010. The worst of the rain seems to be moving to our east but I do see some action in the Hill Country still.

Lightning strike kills two in North Houston

Sad news that occured during a soccer game in North Houston.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A lightning strike during a soccer game killed two people and injured another Sunday. The lightning struck just after noon, hitting a tree near the field in north Houston.

Sheriff's deputies say there were at least a couple hundred people at La Escondida Soccer Club on Hill Road and West Hardy, either watching or participating when it happened. The three victims were under a tree that was struck during the fast-moving storm.

One man died at the scene. A second man was taken to the hospital, where he later died. A third man is at the hospital being treated for burns. He's said to be stable.

We had standing water in the front yard at one point which I've never seen before. My friend sent me a picture of their back yard - the far back was under several inches of water and the pool was about to overflow and add to that... they live in P'ville just east of I35 and just south of Round Rock.

It would be nice if what fell in Austin yesterday (07/15/2012) fell upstream of Lakes Travis and Buchanan, Austin's water sources, still running at 50% capacity.

Never seems to work out that way lately.

I think(?) the last time they were both full was back in 2007, but correct me if I'm wrong.

The Weather Underground, Weather Channel, and Accuweather all show NO chance of rain for the next week to 2 weeks. The NWS shows a 20% chance of rain next Tuesday.

I guess the odds say it is a safe bet it will not rain over the next two weeks?

Dog days are setting in. :sun:

Sounds about right, over the years I have noticed for our region there is usually a heat wave around the summer solstice, end of July/early August, and sometimes one more around labor day before the cool down begins. Teleconnections point at a dry/hot period with PNA being negative, AO+, and a neutral NAO. Of course a wildcard is a tropical system but that doesn't appear in the books until August.

Not surprised since that pesky low that washed us out is now in NE Mexico. We are still getting heavy duty downpours each afternoon, but with less coverage than when we were flooding. Had a brief funnel cloud in my area this afternoon.
These storms are pulsing up and down quickly. Getting a lot of CG here at the house again, but no rain yet. Hope it holds off till the wife gets home since she is on crutches.

Weak disturbance kicked off some severe thunderstorms in portions of the DFW Metroplex.

DFW had measured barely a tenth of an inch of rain so far this month going into today. Picked up at least .69 from the storm this afternoon.

I guess they were bored at the weather office and drafted up a statement to remind us of a typical late July/Early August "dog days" forecast in Texas.

Special Statement

Statement as of 9:26 PM CDT on July 24, 2012

... Dry weather with hot afternoons will continue...

Dry weather with hot afternoons will persist the rest of this week
through the weekend and to the early part of next week.

Like today... on Wednesday afternoon highs will be in the
mid to upper 90s over The Hill Country... in the mid 90s to
near 100 over adjacent parts of south central Texas and
near 100 to 102 over the Rio Grande plains.

As the subtropical high increases over south central Texas
later this week to the early part of next week... hot afternoons
will continue. For this weekend to the early part of next week...
highs are expected to be in the mid 90s to near 100 across The
Hill Country... in the upper 90s to near 101 over adjacent parts
of south central Texas... and near 100 to near 103 over the
Rio Grande plains. The heat index in the afternoons will rise
to near 100 to 105.

The dry weather will cause afternoon relative humidities to
fall into the 20s and 30s. The intense late July sun will add
to the heat.

So far through July 24th... July 2012 has been slightly warmer
than usual for July. After the hottest temperatures so far this
Summer... in late June 2012... conditions moderated slightly in the
early to mid part of July 2012... as scattered rains came to
south central Texas.

I wish I knew. It has been 1 week and 3 days since we received the last rain. That was Sunday July 15th, then end of the rain week and floods in Austin.

Seems like that has been the trend with the past few rain events, at least in Austin. It rains most of Winter to mid March, doesn't rain much for several weeks from mid-March through April. Extremely wet early to Mid-May, then dry from mid-May to the end of June. Then we get several inches the first week of July, now we are going on a string of rain-free days once again.

The rains seem to be consistently inconsistent this year. The hydrologic "pump" has to keep starting over.

It's been over 2 weeks since liquid gold fell from the sky in my municipality. The familiar sight of mid-Summer browning has started.
