Re: RECORD HIGHS MARCH 2012
Cyclenall, while i am unfamiliar with the variations in Toronto's climate i have seen very similar differences around Kingston, the cold air off the lake can make a major and lasting difference. I am a horticulture guy and often in the early spring driving just 30 km north from Kingston can be like driving from early march to late April when it comes to the development of plants and what has started growing. Was the wind off the lake on the day that only made it to 11.5?

I didn't hear anything about the wind causing it. Those people that were ripped must really have been bummed and hopefully it doesn't happen again.

If Winnipeg hits +28 tomorrow ( they have an average temp of 0 for this time of year) it will make it an anomaly of a 1 in a 1000 year event
according to what I heard Chris St. Clair of the Weather Network say.
They should also be warmer than the Cayman Islands.
I saw Fort Frances was the hot spot again today, it appeared to get to 27C there (which is 80F) so I'm guessing that too is a 1 in a 1000 year event. (though when I just checked now I saw that it hit +26 so will be interesting to see what the official recorded temp is).
*****Meanwhile my daughter and SIL are down in California and there they might stay for awhile given that most of the States they'd have to travel through to get back home are currently having snow storms. Was amazed to see even Flagstaff Arizona is having a blizzard. As is their home town in Alberta (oh what an incredible LOAD of snow Medicine Hat is forecasted to get given that they were in Canada's hot spot area for so long this spring).

Same here, I actually got hot outside like I do during the middle of summer. Another thing that has amazed me (that's been non-stop for a week now, the amazed part) is how every single aspect of summer has fully emerged save the air conditioner but that's not really required for summer anyways.

You mean above the previous record. Something I noticed from that list you posted was more and more of these records are breaking older records that aren't really so old like from 2010 or so forth. When you start to see that trend then you have to ask is this progressive.
I checked Fort Frances, Ontario and the almanac isn't quite as impressive as Winnipeg's but what really is interesting is how at 6:00 pm it was still 25ºC with sunny conditions (

Re: RECORD HIGHS MARCH 2012
To tropicana, you probably already know this but Fort Francis ON is not on the March 18th list. The additional 12 Ontario records are still not listed for March 17 (are they too small or unknown?). Places like Owen Sound, Mount Forest, Hanover, Goderich, and Kincardine Ontario all have broken records in the last 5 days or so. It's harder to get good info on these locations but for sure Owen Sound broke one yesterday and Kincardine broke the record on March 15th and 17th.
First time seeing these types where yesterday is competing with today for all timers
.
I've updated my post with the tweets. Check it as new ones come in.

i know cyclenall, it's just so hard to get the canadian data...its not as easy as it is to get the US data.... they dont make it easy... either some official stations don't actually report..like Owen Sound.... officially they take the measurements from the nearby Wiarton Airport which is located just to the NW of Owen Sound. My lists could never be complete, even with the US data. Its just too many, i need a march break after this warm spell is over LOL
keep posting the tweets, love those.

Yeah I was going to post that you got your wish! What another landmark for this heat. I also find it funny that the place is called "Winner" when its the real winner for heat!

It feels like 27ºC+ in the sun today, warmest (or hottest) day yet for sure. It feels pretty humid again and thunderstorms possible today and tomorrow (that's like the 5th or 6th time now in March!).
I added more tweets from today. One of the tweets from Chris St Clair posted a link to a BBC article that says one of the UK databases for Global temperatures shows that now 2010 is the warmest year on record beating 1998!!

Re: RECORD HIGHS MARCH 2012
I don't know if it is the same for everyone but we've had record breaking heat here in Montreal with calm conditions (no wind at all).
Seems strange to DESTROY all those records without the help of gusty southern winds.
