Oh ok, that explains it. Over in Katy, your top gusts from Rita were only about 40-50mph.Yankeegirl wrote:I know the winds were higher when Rita hit, but here where I live near Katy, we really didnt get much wind at all! I dint think there was even any bracnhes or anything down... I have 2 huge pine trees in the front yard, and they didnt loose any branches.. Those trees have lost more during a good thunderstorm than when Rita was near....

How nice to wake up to FF and thuinder with rain. NOT!!! Does not look good for SE TX today. Storms are beginning to train across the Houston area from SE to NW dumping rainfall rates in the 1"-3" per hour range with localized flooding underway in some areas on the SE side of the metro area. Looks like it could be a long lasting event today with many areas experiencing lots of rain and at least localized flooding since we are on the NE side of the mid-level low to our SW over the GOM. Be safe everyone!! We need the rain, but not this much this fast!

Torrential rains this morning in League City.....3.27 so far in 1.5 hours. Streets and I-45 feeders flooding. Creek behind the house is half full but the rain has tapered off. Another hour of tropical rains would made the situation begin to be serious.

Well, dang. What a storm! We had VERY heavy rains, Allison-type torrential rainfalls, and in many areas, even worse! Starting late Sunday night, a little before midnight I believe, the most incredible lightning show I'd seen in years began. I was able to enjoy it without the distractions of lights or the noise of TV since I lost electricity about 12:30 -12:45 am Monday morning. It stayed out for several hours and I stayed awake all night watching constant lightning and listening to very loud thunder. Everything was fine until I went to the bathroom in the middle of the night and stepped into a pool of water. My roof was leaking and my bathroom was flooded!! I wasn't a happy camper!
I think I first heard thunder about 10:30 - 11:00 pm as I was headed to the shower. I went and checked radar and saw storms approaching from the south. It looked like we'd get a good thunderstorm and that would be it. Who knew the radar would look almost identical the next morning as it did when it first started raining? Crazy stuff.
Even with my roof problems, I was luckier than many. A man somehow missed an underpass completely flooded to the top in Beaumont and barely escaped before his car went underwater. A 13 year old boy drowned in Beaumont. They believe he was climbing a fence and came in contact with a ground wire, was shocked and knocked unconscious, then fell into flood waters where he drowned. (according to preliminary autopsy results)
Alligators got loose when an alligator farm flooded just SW of Beaumont, in Fannett. They're searching for them before they find new homes in people's yards! And unfortunately, aside from street flooding and underpasses underwater, many homes flooded, some of them that didn't even flood during Allison! People who haven't been able to get repairs since Rita, just saw their damages get worse. Blue tarps were blown away allowing more rain to enter their homes. I know of one home that burned down after lightning struck it...burned even through the heavy rain.
Btw, did everyone see that 7.08"/hr rain rate in Beaumont that rainshine posted? (that's my sister)
I didn't have electricity at the time, but she watched that rain rate climb online as the rain was falling in buckets! She may not have even captured the highest one...nuts!! That total rainfall ended up being about 15 inches too! Here it is.
Yep, it's been crazy!

Been raining here most of the day... Just looked at the animated doppler and noticed there looks like a area of circulation moving ashore.. I know it isnt anything, but it looks like a TS or something...Its quite neat...
