Temperatures are running drastically cooler. Woodward Oklahoma wasn’t supposed to hit 31 degrees until midnight...it’s 9:45 and it’s already 30 degrees there!

Best hope for us is a little deeper cold higher up and maybe something like 2017 where in heavier bands sleet could fall. To the west for sure. 0z HRRR got really close in heavy qpf.

Still a possibility of the storm going farther south? Maybe. :spam:

This has been a common set the passed few years with these winter events. DFW cold rain while North and west only about 1-2 hour in distance receives ice and snow.

The fact that Abilene is about 1,720 feet above see level vs. Dallas' 620 feet above see level has got to be a factor.

Elevation and the UL. Its a cold low. steep lapse right (i think thats right) and very cold air aloft. That elevation change is enough to equal a huge temp difference.

So is DFW completely going to miss out on any frozen stuff this go around? Are we locked in at this point or could the colder air push further E and S and we get a little surprise?

Stay safe and good luck to all the folks NW of here.

Seems so, but holding out hope it's 2020. Maybe some temp readings this afternoon run cooler than forecast.

I know the NAM is crazy with hurricanes but it's CRAZY that the 12z NAM has a hurricane 700 miles away from an ice storm in Texas on October 28th!!! what a crazy year! :froze: :double:

Speaking of the NAM, I can’t remember from year to year, how does it usually reliably handle winter storms? It’s showing us getting hammered with an ice storm, which nobody in their right mind wants.

Well today has certainly overperformed in Norman. We weren’t supposed to see much of anything until overnight—however it’s 1 pm and we’ve already seen 2-3 hours of sleet that have accumulated all over the place! The roads and sidewalks are slushy and it has been below freezing for a good amount of time. Wishing y’all in Texas could experience this but I’m finally glad to see stuff after all these years.

Freezing line has pushed through a lot earlier than they were anticipating. Just dropped below freezing.

Seems like last year we had a really cold shot here in dfw around this same time, and that was our winter weather for the most part? Also seems really quiet for as much is going on up north and with ice coming down

I'm just west of Denton. Went outside just now and it's very cold. Did not see anything falling but wow, it's cold
