Update from Jeff...

Training band of excessive rainfall pounding NW Harris County into Montgomery County.

Flash Flood Warning is in effect and flooding is likely as this band trains over the area. ALERT station 1090 at Spring Creek and Hegar Rd has recorded 4.57 in the last 2 hours with radar showing 3-5 inches along a line from Lake Conroe to Katy. This excessive rainfall will continue to train along this axis and move deeper into Harris County, Fort Bend, Montgomery, San Jacinto, Polk later this evening.

Flooding looks likely along with possible tornadoes along the leading edge.

vbhoutex wrote:Like you said Jen it has just been weird today. We just went through another round of downpours here. I think you are on the west side of the train and I am under it or slightly East of it. We are now up to 1.45" for the day. I figured I better empty the gauge since tonight could be a doozy. Definitely gonna sleep(if I do)with one eye on the radar and an ear open for noises I'm not used to. It has really been strange having these sneak peeks of sunshine in between torrential downpours. More as/if it develops.
Another glance at the radar makes me think we have a line setting up just West of Harris County that may take its' sweet time moving West to East across the metro area later this evening. It already has set up the training. :grr: :grr:

Check out the train tracks from Matagorda Bay through Ft. Bend, Waller and a smidge of far west Harris County and points NNE. Definitely got its act together now and no westward movement that I can detect. The line only seems to be getting wider and solidifying right now.

Looks like you've got a bit of a break right now David. Hope it holds off a while for you. We can take about 30 minutes of 1.5" / hour rain here before the street floods and is impassable for hours. After that, all bets are off. How about your street?

We are about the same as far as the street flooding is concerned when we get intense rains. I think we may drain off faster than you do though Jen. We needed that long break here. We would be in more hurt than we may be if we hadn't gotten it.

I was just looking at the radar and saw the hook on it at the same time they issued the tornado warning. Daughter is on the phone with wife. At home without power and an 8 month old. They are in Copperfiled. Son called and they were getting pounded in Cypress with 50 mph winds(described it as almost as bad as Ike) and torrential rains and major CG. We just got the gust front here and it really wasn't much. Rain hasn't started yet either, but radar indicates it will soon. more as it breaks. Stay safe and let us know if you need anything. Hey, it could be worse Jen. You could be going crazy alone. :cheesy: (I know I'm gonna pay for that one!)

This line is taking its' own sweet time moving Eastward!! It is a very slow progression. I wish it would just rain itself out quickly!!! I fear that we may be in for a miserable night in many areas of Metro Houston, especially North of I-10. Rain has just started at my location. Everyone please be safe.

Spoke to my sister out in Fairfield (Cypress) and she's worried they're going to flood. They've been getting pounded for a couple hours with very few breaks.

Our neighbors around the corner invited us to and our critters to bunk with them (2-story house) if it looks like we're going under. I don't feel quite so stupid about doing the prep work - the neighbors are doing the same thing.

Oy! at the rate this line is moving I am really feeling sorry for the folks to my NW and North. Looks like south Houston may be spared as the line of storms approaching are thin. Can't say the same for north Houston. stay safe.

Jeff Update 7:45 PM...

Excessive rainfall pounding NW Harris County.

6.40” at Spring Creek at Hegar Rd

5.04 at SH 249 at Spring Creek including 2.50 in 30 minutes.

Upper Spring Creek is nearing TOB at Hegar road and flooding of low lying areas along the channel and roads near the channel is likely.

Line of thunderstorms is producing rainfall average of 2-4 inches per hour especially within the northern section of the line. This line will slowly track across Harris County over the next 2-3 hours. Urban flooding of streets is likely a start followed by rapid rises on area watersheds.

Will be watching upper Spring Creek, Willow Creek, Lt Cypress Creek due to ongoing rains and expected rains could cause issues on Brickhouse and upper Halls.

We had a little break but round II is moving in here. Looks like no CSI for us tonight - DirecTV keeps going out :-(

Hopefully that is the least of my worries. Praying for you, Jen.

It's stopped to your N now Jen. There were 2 inch per hour rates during the height of it though at my location. We're thinking of you and your neighbors.
