Like clockwork, the winds have veered from the NW earlier this morning to the E....temp has risen from 54 deg at 8am to 72 deg at 10 am at my house in fort lauderdale!

Scattered cloud deck coming in from the east was tip off that flow had changed.

TONIGHT THROUGH EARLY FRIDAY. AN AREA OF SHOWERS AND ISOLATED
THUNDERSTORMS WILL MOVE ACROSS AREAS NORTH OF TAMPA BAY
OVERNIGHT...THEN ACROSS THE TAMPA BAY AND ADJACENT AREAS EARLY
FRIDAY MORNINGS. ALTHOUGH THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY WILL BE
ISOLATED...ANY THUNDERSTORMS THAT DO FORM WILL BE CAPABLE OF
PRODUCING BRIEF STRONG WIND GUSTS.

Getting some small hail and pretty decent wind gusts out of this squall right now.

--N Florida not including the east coast and extreme west coast of FL N or Sarasota : low-moderate possibility of strong storms
--C and SW Florida: Slight possibility of strong storms and moderate rains
--SE florida: mostly light rains if anything.

That forecast is a good one if you ask me. But remember, the severity of storms like this are extremely unpredictable and isolated. I wouldn't be surprised to see some tornado watches as far south as Hardee.

The line of thunderstorms is holding intensity with
red visible on base reflectivity http://www.srh.noaa.gov/tbw
Warm tropical air advection ahead of the Low
pressure area is leading to showers and storms
out ahead of the main line. The line itself looks intense
and does appear from the "bow" shape of it to contain
wind gusts in the 40-50 mph range. Go to the velocity radar
at the base velocity level, and observe regions of 45 kt winds
and higher pockets to 60 kt within. Last Saturday I noticed the 60+
kt color and sure enough, Sunday morning, clearwater got 78 mph
(68 knot) winds.

These velocity radars do not lie.

Click on base velocity .50: Dark Blue color indicates 64 kt + winds that is
75 mph winds at the Southeast front of the squall line, about 100 miles
off the west coast of florida!

uh.uh.whatwhat......After the x-olga dealyo I took a weather napp...Nice to see something on the radars...I think all the Christmas shopping left me clueless...

that convective line is holding its own as it approaches the coast. it looks like it is targeting the same area that got the worst of ex olga. based on radar trends the area first in line would be the region from about homosassa to clearwater/ indian rocks beach. the line then seems to string out more east west so a later southward advancedment down toward bradenton appears likely. this thing is moving too... the special marine warning issued by the nws mentions 50 knots while a meso disco from the spc mentions 40 knots. the latter also states to expect this to die off once over the peninsula. it will be interesting to see if this can maintain present intensity as it traverses the very cold waters within 20 miles or so of the coast... if it can i suspect areas from southern citrus county south to mid pinellas county could get a pretty good blast. since that's my backyard i am interested. btw bay news 9 radar has been showing some rotation this evening within portions of the line

I slept through the whole thing whatever came through, I got .47" of rain.

The winds weakened before hitting my area. I saw what I estimate as gusts to
near 40 mph for about a few minutes just after 3 AM this morning.

The NWS has brought the Highs down for each day 3-5° each. Now only 66° today and 74° on Christmas (which was 77°)
