After today it's back into the 60s and 70s :D
Now let's keep it that way the entire winter
Unless there's a huge snowstorm that cancels class for like a week

I am in no way a professional. Take what I say with a grain of salt as I could be totally wrong. Please refer to the NHC, NWS, or SPC for official information.

That's not going to age really well.

Freeze line in East Texas is basically I20. A few spots in NE Texas made it into the upper 20s.

Another chance for localized freezes and widespread frost by morning.

Yep. Time to start paying attention to the strength of those high pressures up north on the models.

GEFS shows a pretty nice front around mid-month but after that this is a pretty chilly setup. The difference is this setup has cold air in our source region, which could set things up for the first legit cold dump of the winter.

CFS has been hinting towards wintry mischief for the Central and Southern Plains in early December. Some runs have had coastal ice and snow, others have it in Kansas, Oklahoma, and North Texas. The details aren't worth paying attention to, but the signal is. When the CFS gets a consistent signal it does pretty well with it.

Will this eventually show up on the GFS if the CFS is showing consistency?

Maybe, it won't be in the timeframe for another week or two though and a lot can change until then.

I definitely agree with you, anything can change from now until when it first shows up on the GFS model & even then, it can change from then.

We'll have to wait and see what kind of air mass builds up to the far North. There are definitely hints of a Pacific retraction pattern that will allow some of it to be delivered.

Things are beginning to look interesting on the models but it’s all long range unfortunately.

This will not be like last winter, there will be more cold intrusions but not the super freeze like last year.

Fine by me. February was a tad much anyway tbh :spam:

And if you remember December January didn't really stand out for cold at all
