You gotta love it! The last time the temperature went below 60ºF was April 21, according to my records (not MIA records)

This is the coldest I've felt for this date. A winter-like front and wind from the north. 65* on our thermometer.

It was later in the month, but it actually got colder in Naples in October 2008. On 10/28/08 the high in Naples hit only 69 deg. On 10/29/08, Naples got down to 47 deg.

Prelim low temp last night in Naples was 54 deg and the forecast for today/tonight is 72/53. Forecast has temps up to 78 deg on Monday and a warmer night on Monday night with a forecast low of 63 deg.

October 2007 was warm but October 2006 had a high/low of 75/53 on 10/24/06....comparable to the current cool down (minus a degree or 2). Going back to October 11, 2000....it hit 46 deg in Naples...the earliest reading under 50 deg ever!

it's amazing just how chilly it is. we've been in the mid 60's all day, cooler than an average high for january. it feels like a crisp october day up north... i feel like i should be out raking leaves! at least a quick rebound is in store..looks like some really nice weather is coming up.

..but what a turn around it has been for Florida.
From record highs to record chills.

Record Low Maximums Sun Oct 18 2009 (for Florida locations only)

Jacksonville FL 63F
Gainesville FL 64F
St Petersburg FL 65F
Tampa FL 66F
Daytona Beach FL 66F
Orlando FL 66F **COOLEST High so early (previous 62F on Oct 20 1989)
Melbourne FL 68F
Sarasota FL 69F
Ft Lauderdale FL 70F
Vero Beach FL 70F **COOLEST High so early (previous 65F on Oct 20 1989)
West Palm Beach FL 71F **COOLEST High so early (previous 69F on Oct 20 1989)
Miami FL 71F **COOLEST High so early in season (previous 72F on Oct 20 1989)
Ft Myers FL 71F tied 1953 **COOLEST High so early tied (previous 71F on Oct 18 1953)
Naples FL 72F

*Interesting to note that in Oct 1989, 20 years ago, (just a few days later than this current cold snap) the chill also followed record daytime heat that broke records that still stand to this day. Some of those record highs and record lows in 1989 still stand to this day.

After 5 months of running the a/c continuously, I am loving the fact that I have my windows open. Our power bills will also be grateful to have this 48 hour respite from running the a/c. Add in the fact that Miami will be within a degree or 2 of record max minimum temps again by wednesday and thursday nights this week, and I say, 'air the house out!'

7pm temps across the peninsula...feels like paradise after the heat we have had

If that is too chilly, jump in the ocean!

JIA tied the record this morning for cold temps @ 43F.
Yesterday set a new record for lowest maximum temp, only making it to 63F.

Gonna be much warmer this week, but a nice change at least. Nothing like wearing pants and a long sleeve shirt to mow the yard in 50F weather!

St. Pete broke a record by getting down to at least 56 (although the Intl airport got down to 51). Tampa also broke the record of 51 by getting down to 48.

Shocking cool after last week's record highs. Had to get back into bed to stay warm! Unusual for this time of year.

Forgot to mention front brought nearly 3 inches of rain. Hit our high water mark for the year with that rain. Still below normal. Negative season had below normal precipitation over ocean.

More record heat by the weekend?

Record highs this weekend for Miami:

10/24 - 92 deg (forecast for saturday is 90 deg)
10/25 - 89 deg (forecast for sunday is 89 deg)
10/26 - 90 deg (forecast for monday is 89 deg)

Latest NWS Miami Discussion:

FRIDAY AND INTO THIS WEEKEND... THE MID LVL RIDGE MAY BREAK DOWN
SOMEWHAT AS A WEAK AND WEAKENING FRONT MOVES INTO FL. AHEAD OF
THE FRONT THE RETURN FLOW WILL PUMP IN MOISTURE AND RETURN THE
PWATS BACK TO NEAR 2" FROM THE 1" RIGHT NOW. TEMPS WILL BE
REACHING BACK TO NEAR 90 AND THE DEW PT WILL BE BACK TO AROUND 70.
THIS MAY ALLOW A TSRA OR TWO ACROSS MAINLY THE INTERIOR SECTIONS
IN THE AFTERNOON DURING MAX HEATING, AND POSSIBLY ALSO ACROSS THE
COASTAL WATERS IN THE MORNING HRS. THE FRONT WHICH MAY MANAGE TO
MOVE INTO THE AREA SUNDAY OR MONDAY WILL LIKELY NOT BRING ANY
RELIEF FROM THE HUMIDITY AND JUST DISSIPATE ACROSS S OR CENTRAL FL
THROUGH TUES.

Ft Myers 89F

Winter Haven 89F

no doubt isolated spots reached 90F

Sites that made it into the 90s in Florida on Sat Oct 24/09:-

Orlando Executive Airport 90F
Ft Myers Regional Airport 90F
Daytona Beach 90F (record)

But if you liked the cool, you could have driven to the northern part of the state,
Crestview was the cool spot that fell to 49F, the high there was 66F
Pensacola wasn't too far behind , a low of 50F and a high of 67F

Here we go again...

:sun: :sun: :sun:

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIAMI FL
227 PM EDT SUN OCT 25 2009

...VERY WARM TO HOT TEMPERATURES EXPECTED THIS WEEK ACROSS SOUTH FLORIDA...

.DISCUSSION...
THE COLD FRONT IS DISSIPATING EARLY THIS AFTERNOON AS IT REMAINS
OVER THE WESTERN ATLANTIC WATERS. THE FRONT COULD STILL MOVE BACK
WEST THIS AFTERNOON INTO EARLY THIS EVENING INTO THE EAST COAST
METRO AREAS AND GENERATE A SHOWER OR TWO ALONG THE BOUNDARY.
THE FRONT SHOULD BE DISSIPATE BY TONIGHT ALLOWING FOR THE RIDGE OF
HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE CENTRAL ATLANTIC WATERS TO START TO BUILD
BACK WEST INTO FLORIDA.

THE RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL CONTINUE TO BUILD INTO FLORIDA
MONDAY INTO TUESDAY ALLOWING FOR THE WINDS TO BE FROM THE
SOUTHEAST DIRECTION. THE SOUTHEAST WINDS WILL ALSO ALLOW FOR
VERY WARM TEMPERATURES TO AFFECT SOUTH FLORIDA ON MONDAY INTO TUESDAY WITH
THE POSSIBILITY OF RECORD HIGHS EACH DAY ALONG WITH THE WARMEST LOWS
FOR THE NIGHT TIME HOURS
. MORE OF THIS WILL BE DISCUSS IN THE
CLIMATE SECTION BELOW.

...EXTENDED FORECAST...
THE TROPICAL WAVE WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE NORTHWARD MIDDLE TO END OF
THIS WEEK...AS THE HIGH OVER THE ATLANTIC WATERS BUILDS OVER
CENTRAL AND SOUTH FLORIDA. THIS WILL ALLOW FOR WINDS TO REMAIN
SOUTHEAST OVER THE CWA...AND ALLOW FOR THE CONTINUATION OF THE
VERY WARM TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE AREA. THE HIGHS WILL BE IN THE
UPPER 80S ALONG THE METRO AREAS TO THE LOWER TO MID 90S OVER THE
INTERIOR AREAS
...WITH THE LOWS IN THE LOWER TO MID 70S INTERIOR TO
THE MID TO UPPER 70S ALONG THE METRO AREAS. THESE TEMPS ARE ALSO
NEAR THE RECORD HIGHS AND RECORD HIGH MIN FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR.

THE HIGH WILL THEN START TO BREAK DOWN NEXT WEEKEND OVER SOUTH
FLORIDA...AS A TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE DEVELOPS OVER THE CENTRAL
UNITED STATES. THIS WILL ALLOW FOR TEMPERATURES TO GET BACK TO
NEAR NORMAL CONDITIONS NEXT WEEKEND.

.CLIMATE...
AS MENTION IN THE SHORT TERM DISCUSSION ABOVE...THE CWA WILL BE
GETTING NEAR THE RECORD HIGHS AND THE LOWEST WARM LOWS FOR THIS
TIME OF YEAR.
