Heads up on the west side of HOU a little later (towards 4-5pm CDT) as a line looks to be moving toward Katy and if it holds together maybe close to downtown Houston by say, 4:00pm or 4:30.

It rained a lot yesterday and last night but not much today...so far. Our chances are still high to very high for the next 5 days though. Is that still likely?

As I am looking at this doppler, can anyone else see the spin? Looks like the Low is sitting right over I-10 west of Sealy... Kinda reminds me of last weeks low circulation area....

This is a great web site for live doppler.. You have to regester, but its worth it, and its free!

Spin in the Rain

#69 Postby stormcloud » Wed Jun 23, 2004 4:12 pm

It's another in a never ending stream of vorticity. It was that spin (or shear) that help create the possible tornado near Wharton this afternoon (although the sheriff's department could not confirm.) There was a picture taken of what looked like a touch down.

The rain is coming down at the rate of 3"/hr right now and looks to be training over me for at least the next hour. Areas to my south are already flooded. I need to get out and fam is refusing to move vehicles behind me. TV is saying stay home unless it is an emergency for the time being. Hard for a spotter/chaser to do.

Just had 1.5" in less than 15 minutes!! Entire meghborhood is curb high or higher water. Still getting ready to get out so I can report in to NWS.

This was the fourth round today and there is more behind it. We are at 3.67" now for the last 24 hours. It was at 2.29" when I got home at 5:45 pm.

was in franklin, tx yesterday a.m. in the town square (SE central TX) when a tornado was reportedly in the area of a nearby school (vacant). no damage, was probably a funnel cloud imo. the weird thing was, the siren blew & everybody went outside to see what was happening.

David -- hang in there, buddy!

Nothing major down here since last night. Actually, no rain to speak of all day. Need to check the radars again and then hit the sack.

Take care tonight, Hou/Galvers!

Gee... We really got slammed over night.. The storms started in around 4 and didnt let up till after 6 this morning! It was raining cats and dogs all night! I wish I had a rain gauge, we must have gotten 3 inches over night.. The dogs bowl was overflowing! And the lightening was very vivid, it woke me up... Sheesh... they say more is on the way??

That's what they say... and they have extended the flood watch to 4pm today. This is from the 3am discussion:

SOME SUBSIDENCE IS INDICATED BEHIND THE SECOND SHORTWAVE WHICH WILL GIVE US A BREAK IN THE STORMS BY LATE AFTN/TONIGHT. WILL LET DAY SHIFT DECIDE IF THEY WANT TO EXTEND THE FFA BEYOND THE FIRST PERIOD
INTO TONIGHT.

UNFORTUNATELY...THERE'S NOT A LOT OF CHANGE EXPECTED THROUGH THE WEEKEND. A NEW SERIES OF SHORTWAVES WILL CROSS THE STATE FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY REINFORCING THE 500 MB TROF IN PLACE. LOW LEVEL JET
WILL CONTINUE TO TRANSPORT DEEP MOISTURE INTO THE AREA WHILE PRONOUNCED UPPER LEVEL DIFLUENCE CONTINUES. WILL GO LIKELY POPS FRI/SAT/SUN...WITH SLIGHTLY LOWER POPS AT NIGHT. HPC DAY 2 QPF
OUTLOOK HAS ANOTHER 1-2 INCHES FOR SE TX. WILL MENTION LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN IN ZONES FRIDAY.

It has been storming for at least the past hour here, since I woke up. The thunder is weird... frequent, and rolls for a long time. Now the fun drive into downtown Houston... wheeeee...

Haven't seen anything yet today but storms are rapidly developing just to my south and moving this way. Haven't had much rain with this event at all yet, I would say less than 1/2 inch but that's definately going to change today. http://www.srh.weather.gov/radar/loop/DS.p19r0/si.klch.shtml

It's been alternating between pouring and drizzle with an ocassional overcast break since I woke up this morning. when I went to bed it had been raining for most of the evening.

It appears to be coming slowly enough that the bayous can handle it in the Braes and White Oak bayou areas... but I'd hate to see it start getting worse. The ground is so saturated near my office (heights) that my foot sinks into grass covered mud up over the toes of my shoes.

If it keeps up at the drizzle/storm pace it's been going at I think my parts of town will be okay. If it gets worse... well I suspect it would get worse VERY quickly.

Looks like we will finally get a break sometime later this afternoon. Radar doesn't indicate much of anything developing West or Southwest of us at this time. Enjoy it while you can because if the pattern continues as it is expected to the repeat of this will be starting again late Friday though the weekend and have another break maybe around Monday/Tuesday and then another round, possibly tropical in nature, around Wednesday.

BTW, I'm up over 4" of rain at the house in the last 2 1/2 days.

We just got slammed here in Lafayette. I would estimate a quick 2" of rain fell because there was LOTS of street flooding as I made my way out for some lunch. Alot more on the way too as the bulk of the activity is now moving into Louisiana.

I don't doubt it PT. How was the wind?

There was a report of a 72 mph wind (gust maybe?) from an oil rig in West Cameron.
