Houston appears to be in the clear for now but keep watching for development out west. Hard to tell if the storms north of Austin will continue SE. I'm really hoping that this doesn't turn out to be a north of I-10 event only, we'll see what happens through the evening.

the storms north of Austin are supposedly producing winds over 70mph! Even if they do not make it down here...an outflow boundry is likely.

Not much happening out west exept some nice cells popping up down in old mexico. That could change very quickly though and from what I have read it will.

Looks like now it will be wee hours or even tomorrow. Probably nothing severe for us after all.

this whole situation is very depressing. I am looking at a close up of some of the most extreme activity I have seen in a long time about to move into the College Station area with winds over 70mph and large hail, and I am sitting here just a few counties south and have not even heard a rumble of Thunder. Also, how does Austin manage to have 3 days in a row of strong storms and Houston see nothing? I guess my only near term hope is that the storms to our north let out a powerful outflow boundry which sparks a storm right over Harris County. If not, I may have another (slim) chance overnight or tomorrow and then may be another (slim) chance next week. This is really making me sick.

EDIT: What is keeping these storms from developing just a little further south?

You're not alone. We desperately need rain! Extreme SE TX was just upgraded from severe drought to extreme drought today and there are burn bans in the area. This is/was our big shot at some decent rain...I hope it still reaches this far south overnight or in the morning.

Guess all we can do is pray now as I'm afraid most of the storms will stay north of I-10. Quite sickening to watch storms for days out in west Texas over semi-arid land and here we are right along the gulf coast and we haven't seen more than a ground wetting since February.

good news is that the weather person on TV said that more storms are firing back in Mexico and since the upper low is still to our west we should expect a round of storms in Houston overnight or tomorrow morning with a severe threat possible. I am not giving up hope yet!

That's basically what I was about to say, Extreme. This was just posted by a local met in Beaumont a few minutes ago:

I still think there will be widespread showers and thunderstorms Friday morning into Friday afternoon. Some of the storms will be heavy with the potential for large hail in isolated spots. Rainfall totals between 1 and 1.5 inches appear likely as well.

We are about 10 inches below normal for the year and could certainly use the rain minus any severe weather.

Local met just posted an update on the news website here talking about anything we see tomorrow should be in the 1/4" or less category. Talk about being positive huh. I think he just doesn't want to blow a forecast given how dry it's been.

Seems all the rain the area has seen has been north of I-10. :x

Even though it is going to miss me...i still have to say that that is one heck of a nice looking wind storm to my north. I would not be surprised to hear about gusts over hurricane force with that thing! Impressive! It also looks like (on the last frame of radar) that it may be trying to send out an outflow boundry! It is also amazing how far south the latest warning extends...it goes a good 10+ miles south of where the storm is (I guess it's wind field is quite large). I will continue to moniter the situation.

Yep, that is a mega storm just to the north of me. I'm actually glad I did not get a taste of that one. All my veggies in my gardne would of taken a severe beating!
