Normal rates for air are something with around 3500, isn´t it ? It´s some years ago with me.

No, 3500 is considered VERY unstable.

You´re right - i got to get my books out again.

Wow I haven't seen this kind of outbreak in my area in a long long time. There are tornado warnings all over the place! Currently it's 88 degrees with a hardly a cloud in the sky here in Lafayette. We'll see what happens within the next few hours.

This is the special weather statement the NWS Lake Charles released:

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LAKE CHARLES LA
350 PM CDT WED MAY 10 2006

NEWTON...LUMBERTON...BEAUMONT/PORT ARTHUR...ORANGE
350 PM CDT WED MAY 10 2006

...A VERY INTENSE LINE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS APPROACHING...

A LINE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING DAMAGING WINDS...LARGE
HAIL...HEAVY RAINS AND FREQUENT LIGHTNING IS RAPIDLY MOVING
SOUTHEAST AT 30 MPH. THE LINE WAS LOCATED ALONG A COLD FRONT FROM
NEAR HOUSTON TO LUFKIN TO MONROE LOUISIANA.

THIS INTENSE LINE OF DAMAGING STORMS WILL MOVE INTO WOODVILLE...JASPER
AND BURKEVILLE AREAS BETWEEN 430 AND 530 PM...ALEXANDRIA AND BEAUMONT
AROUND 6 PM...LAKE CHARLES AND OAKDALE BY 7 PM...LAFAYETTE AND
ABBEVILLE BY 8 PM...NEW IBERIA AND MORGAN CITY BEFORE 10 PM.

THIS LINE WILL LIKELY CONTAIN THE STRONGEST THUNDERSTORMS OF THIS SPRING
SEASON. DAMAGING WIND...LARGE HAIL...AND A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF
LIGHTNING STRIKES IS EXPECTED.

THE ENVIRONMENT IS EXTREMELY UNSTABLE AND THUS THERE IS THE
POTENTIAL FOR LARGE TORNADOES TO DEVELOP.

A TORNADO WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR INTERIOR SOUTHEAST TEXAS AND
INTERIOR SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA THROUGH 9 PM. ADDITIONAL WATCHES ARE
LIKELY TO BE ISSUED.

I think that the cap issues are pretty much taken care of at this point; anyone in between the storms and the Gulf of Mexico needs to keep a serious eye to the sky today.

The local met expects the storms to weaken by the time they reach my area but there could still be isolated severe storms. There is a near record low airmass coming behind that front, I'm actually quite concerned.

wow! It is amazing that we have been sparred too. I just looked and it seems like there are warnings everywhere but here! As I speak, however, a storm is popping up just west of us...but I doubt it will have time to go severe before getting here. Who knows though...

Second of the year? The big one there was last November...unless there was a weak one earlier this year...

There wasn't a great deal of rotation and a lousy signature there (no other severe cells), so it had to be an F0 or F1.
