I personally liked it better last year when it was cold and wet. You didn't need to worry about drought (as of Jan. of last year, Florida was 100% drought free).

Hopefully we can get a couple of weak TC's. And according to the Old farmers almanac, we are to "Expect hurricane threats in June and early October." But personally I wouldn't put weight on that.

Here along the Tampa Bay Gulf coast, we can't quite get to 80f as the sea breeze is holding us in the 70's, but it did hit 78f under bright, sunny skies. Spring is popping up all over - flowers, trees and pollen!

so jealous!

It did reach 80F on Feb 1/11 at Tampa FL, after an absence of 80s for all of December and January. The last 80 degree temperature prior to Feb 1 was Nov 30/10 when it reached 83F.

At Sarasota-Bradenton, it hasn;t reached 80F as yet this month, but it did touch 80F on January 25/11.

At Miami International, it has already hit 80F 9 times already this February (including today Feb 20). The warmest day so far has been February 10 when it reached an unseasonal 87F, the warmest day since Oct 30/10.
The mercury pushed into the 80s 8 times during January 2011.
It also reached into the 80s on one day in December 2010 ( 85F on Dec 1/10)

And November 2010 reached into the 80s 25 times .

Places like Key West are very much influenced by the surrounding water temp - with the surrounding ocean temp in the winter typically in the low to mid 70s, it is actually not too common for Key West to reach or surpass 80 degrees in the winter time (the flip side is that it is very rare for the low temps to fall into the 50's, let alone the 40's - even when there have been temps in the 30's down to Miami).

Looking at 2010, the highest temp in January in Key West was 80 deg - it hit that temp 3 times. The highest temp in February 2010 was 80 deg - it only hit that temp one day of the month. By comparison, the highest temp at Key West (airport) in January 2011 was 79 degrees (1 day) and so far has been 79 degrees in February (2 days so far).....not so different this year vs. last...less 1 degree!

By June, when the water temps head into the mid-80's, it will be hard-pressed for the nighttime temps to fall below 80 degrees in Key West.....in fact, the low temp in Key West stayed 80 degrees or higher (including multiple nights of 'low' temps of 85 deg) for 79 nights during the summer of 2010 (3 nights, in May, 26 nights in June, 18 nights in July, 20 nights in August, 11 nights in September and one night in October)

Temps seem to be running a couple degrees above official forecast. Forecast high for Miami today was 78, but we're having no trouble cracking 80. Unofficially I've even seen 83 on a few thermometers. With very high insolation, it has felt quite warm out there all weekend.

Both the long-range GFS and ECMWF do not change the pattern a whole lot out through 240 hours (and the GFS out through 384 hours). It looks like the pattern gradually becomes more zonal and the stout ridge over the GOM shifts east and weakens but another ridge builds over the Western tip of Cuba and becomes flat and elongated on the 21-20N lattitude from the BOC to the Lesser Antilles spanning the northern Caribbean, SE GOM, South FL, and the Bahamas. But the cold air is going to be a long way from here with plenty of normal to above normal temps through February and starting into March. The pattern is a complete 180 shift from December.

As some has said, winter appears to be over here in South FL (South FL winters are from Dec. - Feb.). Bring on the summer rainy season :)

Loving this weather, feels like spring already! Also noticing many flowers beginning to bloom.. if I didn't know the date I'd say we were in early April.

Today marks the 11th day in this month that Orlando has reached 80 degs or higher. Contrary to Feb of last year that we did not see not one day of 80 degs with wetter than average conditions.
La Nina finally has shown its face this month.

And the way is looking like, this is going to be a February with the most 80 degs for highs since February 2001.

Upper 80s today? Geez, I knew it felt hot.

I hope we at least get some minor "cool" shots in March and April, as we have in many past years........but it seems like that may not be the case.

I see Key West finally hit 80 today. With the all-day sun the way it has been, those surrounding waters will be getting hot quick, and afternoon highs below 80 won't occur for another 8-9 months.

Won't be long for all of us in S. FL before our morning lows can't even dip below 80 :grr:

Here it hasn't reached 80° yet. The last time Eglin AFB reported an 80° temperature was Oct. 28, 2010. Today was the 119th consecutive day of not hitting 80. But I don't mind the cool air in the panhandle.

82 again at Miami today, though I was out in the sun all day and trust me, it felt toastier than that. This is really a textbook late winter La Nina pattern. What happens if this southwest Atlantic ridge persists through hurricane season? lol

If it does, our drought might be so severe we'll *need * a hurricane to put a dent in it. Anyone have any idea/educated guess when we might get our next meaningful rainfall? Does not seem likely in the near future.....
