Once again it appears that those of us in the Central Florida Panhandle (The White area) will miss the rain.

We are down 17" of rain so far for the year (Marianna, Jackson County) and it's looking like we will miss this chance.

Oh well.... maybe the next storm will be our turn.

Wow, lots of rain for the dry season. The frogs sound happy. It looks like the type of trailing low that would turn in to a tropical system if the front was moving faster.

Hello folks,

Today's Florida weather event actually hit close to home...way too close. My neighborhood in South Florida (Sunrise) has been hit by a tornado this evening and many trailer homes across my street have lost roofs and even some were totally destroyed. Many trees are down and there is debris on what appears to be a 1/4 mile wide path of damage. I actually saw the twister when it blew up a power transformer and outlined the trees swaying in different directions. I was watching the storm unfold by the window and upon seeing the busting transformer and the trees moving, I knew what was up and got myself and my family into the bathroom quick. Soon after we went outside and saw the damage first hand. Luckily it appears no one was killed. I would personally estimate this tornado as an EF-1, perhaps low EF-2 in some of the blocks further up my street that were closed by the police. There was some talk about the possibility of straight line winds, but I found evidence that this was undoubtedly a twister...a piece of the roof of a trailer home was tangled in the bushes of a gated community to its SOUTH, so as the parent storm itself traveled north-northeast, a spinning wind blew this roof southwards. The rest of South Florida should keep abreast of this situation overnight as more tornadoes are possible, as the watch states. It's been a wild night.

Man was it big or what? Not only did my neighborhood get run over by a twister, it was hit by one of the strongest tornadoes in south Florida history!!

According to 7News, officials have assessed the destruction and have found EF-2 damage where winds neared 110-120 mph! It was almost the type of tornadoes seen in the midwest! Good thing you fared well as as well. I even have pics of the initial damage on my own camera from this one, it was a night I'll never forget.

For me, it was about as close as one can be to a tornado without having damage done to one's own home. I was probably closer to the twister than most tornado chasers even! It was so close! F2 in Broward, simply astounding!

Luckily it hit a wooded area down the road and had little damage other than trees.

You are so right about that sound jdray!!! I had one go over our house just off the ground during Alicia in '83. Amidst the din of being in the eyewall I could here it advancing our way. Fortunately somehow we only had major tree damage as opposed to what some others experienced. I wondered at first if I might have been over-reacting, but when I ran in the house screaming tornado I literally fell over my wife holding our daughter in the hall. I can tell you she does not get excited about the weather and is a seasoned tornado alley veteran, so I knew I didn't "over react". It was confirmed by NWS also.

I had a friend in the neighborhood next door that went through the F4 Witchita Falls Texas Tornado (1979) as a kid, she hid in the bathtub and cried during our tornado. The tornado got her shook up. Her husband said it took a few hours to coax her out of the bathtub, and ours was an unconfirmed F0.

Wow! f2 is strong for So Fla! A crisp 50.f here at 7am. Brrr Yesterday struggled to 70F with some breezes. I was so cold! Too early I say.
