... A Tornado Warning remains in effect until 845 PM CDT for Central
Lake County...

At 808 PM CDT... local law enforcement reported a tornado on the
ground in Mundelein
... moving east at 33 mph.

The tornado will be near...
Libertyville at 810 PM CDT...
Green Oaks by 815 PM CDT...
North Chicago by 820 PM CDT...

All these towns mentioned have populations exceeding 20,000... so this is about as bad as a situation as that which happened earlier in the S suburbs. Perhaps worse given that the sun is setting.

:uarrow: There are many injuries, undoubtedly.

MyfoxChigago reports:

"On nearby Interstate 57, multiple semi trucks and cars were overturned in the outbound lanes near Stuenkel Road, including a semi truck that blocked all lanes of traffic, said Illinois State Police Trooper Mark Dorencz."

Will they be as strong on the Michigan side though?

Doesn't look like it, but there's a small pocket of high EHI along the W Michigan coast that may re-energize any storm moving off Lake Michigan, albeit the instability and helicity parameters aren't as crazy as they are over NE IL.

50 reports today. However, about 30 of them are from the same tornado (probably two or three actually).

It might be a single 75 mile path...

Possible but seems unlikely.

Were the Chicago tornadoes not as bad as some had first feared?

The warning statements and the storm reports of homes flattened/destroyed sounded dire, but this news report doesn't sound nearly as bad:

Meteorologist Gino Izzi said tornado damages have been reported in Cook, Livingston, Kankakee and Will counties. Cook County spokeswoman Penny Mateck said the tornado didn’t cause any major damage and nobody was injured.

From what I can tell the homes flattened report was from far northern Iowa.

The chicago storm was strong but it seems that it was probably no stronger than EF2 based on the reports I've read.

I agree. I think if the damage was worse, then the media would be all over it. From radar imagery earlier and the spotter reports, it sounded quite bad real-time. But it also sounded like the tornado didn't stay on the ground consistently but rather was touching down briefly and then lifting back up from reports I heard later on. That could have spared a number of areas more significant damage.

Massive supercell in N KS has a very distinct TVS signature with it. May be a large, strong tornado on the ground associated with it:

... A Tornado Warning remains in effect until 1000 PM CDT for west
central Jewell and eastern Smith counties...

At 928 PM CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar continued to
indicate a tornado. This tornado was located 7 miles south of
Bellaire... or 32 miles northwest of Beloit... moving northeast at 29
mph.

The tornado will be near...
Lebanon by 945 PM CDT
Esbon by 955 PM CDT
