Woke up to 44F and clear skies, mostly calm winds. It is a drastic change! Freeze watches are out for inland Pasco Co as I anticipate possibly the coldest temps of the season. My previous low has been 36.7F just after TGiving. My greenhouse heater is on! However, it will not be cold enough to damage the orchids. Just such a change. low 30's in Citrus county this morning. This chill will last thru Monday, then a gradual warmup. The long range predicts warming for the second half of Feb, so perhaps we will get back to our warmer than normal weather. :cold: The low here should be 36-39F depending on wind. Brrr

Another freeze less morning for central FL, except the usual areas of Ocala to Cedar Key. The light freeze did not extend as far south as forecasted with Brooksville staying above freezing.
Weird how the sub freezing area seemed to hug the northern Nature Coast to the big bend with Gainesville and Jax above freezing.
The GFS for tonight show temps a few degrees warmer for central FL.

The coldest temps of the season for your area tonight? I doubt that. Maybe as cold but not any colder than you have seen already. I rather say the longest extend of cold weather of the season as in the past couple of months they were only one or two consecutive nights this cold.

49* was the low here. Sun should just be warm enough to moderate the cold airmass a little. This is winter finally pushing south but is still nothing close to the worst and should pass after a weak reinforcement Sunday.

A whopping 6 degrees above the monthly average is what Orlando officially ended up for the month of January, with only a quarter of an inch of precipitation for the entire month, this is more typical of a La Nina ENSO winter month.

[TEMPERATURE DATA]
AVERAGE MONTHLY: 66.2
DPTR FM NORMAL: 6.0

[PRECIPITATION DATA]
TOTAL FOR MONTH: 0.24
DPTR FM NORMAL: -2.11

Currently 31.3 degrees at my location, the first freeze I have recorded here since Dec 24 and only the sixth freeze of the season. It goes to show just how incredibly warm it has been across this region this winter.

Brrr 41.5F the lowest at 630am but it was already 44F when I woke up at 3am. For this winter, this is cold but did stay out of the 30's. Weeki Wachee hit 31F for two consecutive freezing mornings. B'ville stayed up at 36F and the TROPICS OF TAMPA hit 45F despite a dewpoint lower than mine by 4 degrees. Slow to warm as it is 47F at 9am. However, if this is as cold as it gets, I'll take it. Long range shows a return to 80F by late week? Sweet! My tomato seedlings have just popped and I am still picking gobs from last August's plantings. :sun:

:uarrow: Were you forecasted to get into the 30s by your NWS office?
I noticed that Hernando County was under a freeze warning last night but that I can see they did not hit freezing. Your NWS office always seems to go on the side of caution.

Here in the Orlando area we were actually a couple of degrees warmer than yesterday morning because winds stayed up thanks to high pressure center staying north of the Peninsula winds stayed up mixing the atmosphere up with warmer temps above the surface than yesterday. Is amazing how it never fails that when the NAO is either neutral or positive freezing temps stay north of the I-4 corridor.

Dodged it down here. We jumped-up into the 60's quickly and are heading for the 70's again today.

Almost to 70F today under blazing sunshine. It began quickly to warm late morning, but the air is rather dry so it chilled fast after dark. Currently 54F dewpoint 44F. A dry front is to move thru Sun with Mon morning being chilly, lower 40's, then a gradual warmup next week. The AO is suppose to turn slightly positive in a week, if not sooner, which may give us some warmer weather for some time. Rain would be nice. Jan total of .41" is not going to do much good. I'd hate to see the fire season kick up. :sun:

The AO has been already positive for the last few days. This cooler wx pattern for FL has been the result of a slight positive PNA pattern making the eastern US to stay in a troughiness pattern and because the Caribbean reach that was protecting FL earlier last month weakened and or repositioned further west towards MX, thankfully the NAO has been neutral to positive otherwise we probably would had seen a devastating freeze in central Florida because Canada was loaded with some of the coldest temps in a long time. The mid level ridge is supposed to move closer to FL late next week with ridging and warmer wx to return to the eastern US.

I left home this morning at 7 am and it was pretty chilly! 43 degrees, needed two layers hehe :cold:

Some coastal locations neared the 50 mark too, but the inland sectors were in the low to mid 40s across south florida (north of the miami line).

chilly DAY. Started out at 41F topped out at 66F, If this is as cold as it will get, kudos! A few years ago this might have been a warm spell. Now, turn of the heat. Lets keep that AO positive. We did luck out so far. :ggreen:

There seems to be a repetitive pattern this winter where we have warmer than average temps. for 2-3 weeks than a quick break in between with cooler than average temps. for 1-1½ weeks. Than the pattern repeats itself again. This has been like this since the beginning of December.

I totally agree, this has been the pattern this meteorological winter. We will probably go back to cooler wx pattern in early March but by that time I doubt there will be any freeze events except extreme north FL.
I already started cleaning up my garden, started trimming some of the tropical plants that usually the cold wx here in the Orlando damage their outer foliage but did not happen this year. They grew like crazy after such a warm and wet summer/early fall.
I didn't even had to protect my mango tree this year. There is going to be a good crop of mangos all across central FL this year.

Today was warmer but still 41.5F at wakeup. Tonight and the rest of the week will ne warmer. There is a hint of colder air in 7-10 days, but it doesn't look anything dramatic. Just the usual push of chilly air. CPC is calling for the pattern to stay warm beginning March (other are saying this to) so perhaps, it may be a nice spring. RAIN would be nice. It is very dry and fires are just beginning. But, love the warmth! :sun:

Not one drop of rain here in Orlando this afternoon, I got excited for a moment when I saw the Tampa radar earlier today but as the rains moved closer to Orlando it like it evaporated :grrr:
Now I have to water the plants before they die off from this warm and dry wx.
