Here in SW Houston, I've recorded only 4 rain days since mid-May. I've never watched banana trees fall over and die before. Grass is sort of hanging in there. No way I'm watering it. Water bill was $80 last month without watering. It'll have to fend for itself. I miss the days of towering cumulus and afternoon storms. Checking my records, 2011 was both hotter and drier than 2023, with a total of only 21.6" of rain for the year. This year, I've recorded 22.78" so far, mostly in January and May. Wettest year was 2017 with 83.99". The 37.49" in August was quite a wet one, mostly due to Harvey.

Oh really? I thought you've been loving the nonstop heat! 100 every day for over a month now...perfect weather for you!

If it rains that means it's cooler and not hot enough for you. Or maybe this hot pattern has been going on so long you're tired of those long bike rides?

This next week will go down as the hottest week of the summer for us. Stay hydrated and cool.

I would be curious to see a graph comparison of June/July/August rainfall totals over last 100 years for Houston, Austin, Dallas, SA, Brownsville, El Paso. Maybe there's not much variation, but it definitely feels like the last 20 years would be the driest of that 100 period for Central Texas. That concerns me more than the heat.

These 105-110 temps every single day are really getting old. I think WF has recorded more over 100 days than anywhere else in the area.

Yeah i think the worst of the "heat dome" is over. Lots of positive anomalies in NW Canada, should prevent any massive heat wave from forming. Hopefully sea breeze storms start soon for the state

Yeah it's gonna be a brutal week at the peak of climo too. Some hope though after. This is going to be a top 5 hottest July for persistence.

Amarillo is having a beautiful summer on the contrary, lucky.

Uggghh, the Euro keeps pushing any relief out past Day 10. It did look good for a few runs, but it has abounded the other models on the 00z & 12z cycles today.

ETA: The EPS looks much better, but I have seen the Op Euro sniff out trends before the EPS many a time. Let's hope the 00z tonight flips back and does not lead the EPS into :sun: :sun: :grr:

I will gladly take the heat as long as the Gulf of Mexico remains calm and quiet.

Well sir, Mr. Heat Miser, you wanted this. Days of 100s. No clouds. Sun like a blow torch. Grass dying. Banana trees falling over. Shall your kingdom of heat continue into August? :ggreen:

Agreed!

Watering a lawn is way cheaper than replacing a fence, or the deductible on roof repairs, drywall, water damage....

Seems reasonable; peek season plus maybe some MJO help. Then the door slams shut. The new Euro Weeklies are primarily highlighting FL and the Central Gulf.

I’m not so sure about that. Ensembles have been backing off the ridging over Texas beginning after the 10th or so.
I just want some rain and cooler temps. Today was brutal.
