There is no cold front or frontal boundary over FL tonight. What sparked the thunderstorm activity today was an upper level disturbance along with daytime heating and seabreeze fronts.
Expect the same over the next few days.

It certainly looked like a dying frontal boundary. Early this morning we were graced with 1 1/2" of rain in storms and deluges, from about 4am-6am or so. Buckets. Yes! Now there is a huge blob out in the GOM moving toward FL. Any organization to it? 60% plus chance of rain for Wed and Thur. Now this is a rainy springtime! What a bizarre year it has been. :double:

My friend in Miami says they have been getting a lot of rain. Seems like an early wet season this year. Iowa had the wettest April in 141 years.

With the possibility of a surface low developing in the Eastern Gulf and sliding eastward into South/Central Florida, we could be looking at a lot of rain over the next three days. The 12Z GEM has widespread areas of 3-6 inches of rain within the next 72 hours. HPC has much of the state painted in a swath of 2-4 inches of rain within that same time frame.

:uarrow: I agree, and if a hybrid system forms in the Eastern GOM in the next couple of days, the potential for substantial rain across the peninsula. It has been wet here in Jax area for much of April and the pattern is certainly continuing as we enter May.

NWS now has a flood watch posted for all of the Northeast Florida coastal counties from 2 p.m. this afternoon through Saturday morning. Rainy, windy conditions will persist for the next 48-72 hours.

Convergence rain bands are already occuring and moving onshore Southeast Georgia coastal areas southward to off the coast of Jax Beach. These bands where they set up and "train" over the same areas can dump some very heavy rainfall amounts, so a wise decision by the NWS mets to post the flood watches across the region.

As discussed last night, a very wet pattern in place for the peninsula the next 72 hours. The moderate onshore Atlantic flow, combined with deep pool of GOM moisture being pumped into the region by the Upper Low centered near New Orleans early this morning will keep very heavy rain around several areas for sure.

A full day of clouds, rains, and no sun. Total was about half inch, giving me two inches this week of much appreciated rainfall. So odd to happen in early May - height of our dry season. MOre anticipated today keeping the yard lush and green! :sun:

Steady light rain here. Unusual for the dry hot heart of dry season.

It is pouring here at my locale currently as copious moisture from the Atlantic and GOM have converged right over Northeast FL. So far, already have measured over an inch and a half here and well on the way to getting 3-5 inches of rain across the region for today. Definite localized flooding concerns are a possibility.

It is approaching 2 inches of rain for the day at my locale currently with the rain still falling. The solid line of rain extending out into the Atlantic on radar above has been coming onshore all day long and has been steadily moving through the Jax area. Thankfully, the heaviest rain cells are moving through at a good pace within the convergence band, or else we would really have been looking at a possible major flood event here.

We are socked in the rest of the day and tonight with more of these bands continuing to move in off the Atlantic. Probably will get at least another 1 to possibly 2 inches additional rain by tomorrow morning.

This is a significant rain event for South Florida with some areas already at 8 inches in Boca Raton and Delray Beach. I would need to check but today's rain might end up covering the average rainfall amounts we see for all of the spring months combined here.

We have seen training all day today in this area and the rain continues to come in and is the most intense right along the coastline from Southeastern Palm Beach County south into Broward and Miami-Dade.

This has really turned into quite a significant rain event here in Northeast Florida. It has rained continuously since 8 a.m. yesterday morning and much more to come today. Just took a measurement and now 3.75 inches has fallen at my locale and counting. Latest projections are calling for possibly up to 3 more additional inches in areas for the next 12-24 hours

Radar continues to show an impressive feed and long convergence band of rain extending all the way southeast to the Northern Bahamas. It continues to rotate nothwest right into our area and this will continue again all day today into tonight.

Saint Augustine has already received close to 8 inches of rain since this began yesterday and flooding is occuring down there early this morning. Other areas of Jacksonville have received over 5 inches and some localized flooding in the city is beginning to occur.

Hopefully, we may see the rain slacken some on Saturday, but it does not appear to really start to dry out in full force until Sunday. A stronger cut-off upper low will finally start to migrate into the TN Valley region. This will bring in a drier and unseasonably cooler air mass early next week to the region. May see 50s for min temps early next week.

NWS Jax office just issued flash flood warning for portions of the Jax metro area, mainly for downtown and the McCoy's Creek area, which always floods in heavy rain events like this one.

I am raising the white flag this morning, I surrender, no more rain, please! This is the wettest late April/early May period I have experienced in central FL in the 8 years have lived here. Usually this time of the year my garden and lawn is dying because of no rain.
This week so far I have received close to 6" of rain.

NDG, since the big nor'easter event here last weekend to now, I have measured just over 7 inches total and still counting. Impressive indeed. I am with you in that I can't remember receiving so much rain in April /early May period.
