As expected ample moisture around and with a SW steering flow, big storms firing yet again along the SE Coast of Florida....

Yes, finally, waves of showers and storms hit. About 3/4" total. Nice rains. Not too heavy. Was at TIA around 2pm in a huge downpour and storm. Not here. But, this was a good rain without the huge drenching we tend to get along the GOM.

There has been some scattered thunderstorms around here each and every day. Hit and miss variety. I have been more on the miss side of it lately. I have received about 3/4 of an inch of rain total for the week. Looks like June will end here not as wet as May. Total rainfall measured is just under 8 inches, compared to nearly 14 inches measured at my locale for May.

Tropics remain quiet for now. However, I do foresee upper level conditions improving as we progress into July in the Atlantic basin.

Looking at the Florida VIS loop this afternoon, with strong SW to NE windflow, you couldn't tell it was June. Looks more like January when a front is approaching. Low-level winds are also quite strong for late June with gusts near 30mph across metro SE florida with strong southerly flow ahead of the front.

FLOOD WATCH: for all of west central Florida through Wednesday morning for the possibility that an additional 3 to 5 inches of rain may fall

Personal tout: http://t.co/3lafBlo1Tp

Rainfall is now falling at 2" per hour, and an urban flood advisory has been issued. Water is beginning to pile up.

Yeah Jonathan, we have been deluged here all day long as the moisture pump from the eastern flank of the upper level trough over the Western GOM is funnelling rain northward right over our region. I have measured just over 2.5 inches of rain to this point for the day, and it is still raining. July off to a very wet start here. Looks as if we will see more rain up until about Wednesday. At that point, it looks as if the Bermuda High will start to build back into the area, and that should shift the focus of the significant moisture and rain westward from my locale by week's end.

Yesterday, just about 3pm, one of those training deluges set up right over my part of the city. I teach a student during summer to recover credits, and I had yet to get out to the car when BAM! DELUGE for 25 minutes. Streets flooded, rivers run down them. When all was done about 3 inches fell in 35 minutes. I had emptied the gauge at 11am frm the previous rains of well over an inch frm the night before. Two days of July = almost 4 1/2" and counting, and 6 1/2" in 5 days! I noticed the mushrooms popping up everywhere. Now, some sun to dry us out. My yard is very very very happy! :P

gsytch, I see you are now getting plenty of rain in your neck of the woods. I remembered how you were posting not that long ago about how dry it was in your area. Glad to see your area has joined the rest of us across the peninsula in getting deluged lol.. So far, I have received just under 4 inches of rainfall for the first three days of July. We definitely need drying out around here for awhile and it looks like we will get that, thanks to the Bermuda High building westward across the area for the rest of this week. All of the deepest moisture and rain will shift westward across the panhandle area and Northern Gulf Coast region as the Bermuda ridge builds back in. Should be nice, hot weather July 4 holiday here with only a slight chance of thunderstorms in the foreacst, and this will be the case through the upcoming weekend.

What a shame, the weather has turned for the better along the east central coast of FL for the beach goers but upwelling continues with SSTs along the coast in the low 70s!!! What a shame.

You want to see something funny, click on the link below, watch this live web cam out of Daytona beach as people try to get into the nippy water, they go into a shock, lol

Nice WebCam I bookmarked that in the surf folder, thanks.

June Rainfall in Naples highest since solar cycle 23. Looks like Jupiter is headed out to aphelion. Maybe the Long Count dry[] is over for a few years.

This storm has provided more winds than anything in the last week. Widespread gusts to 40 mph with even a few sustained winds to tropical storm force.

Have I ever joined the deluge! I have now measured over a foot of rain since last Thurs/Fri, and desite your mention of "drier" air, July 4th was a HUGE storm followed by another in the evening, and now it just finished pouring for the second time today. Gusty winds. Odd. After weeks of missing so much of the rains, it will not stop now and sunshine is almost nonexistent. I have mushrooms on mushrooms. Now we need a few days of sun and more sun!

I was teasing you gsytch. I was kind of making light of the fact that it seemed like your area was the only one missing out in the state. Also, I was referencing yesterday's July 4 for my area in Jax, not your area in particular. Now, as you pointed out, you can't get the Mother Nature's faucet to stop lol... It always seems to work out that way. One extreme to the next my friend.

It is so true - and a few weeks ago I stated when it does start, it will be relentless. Our coastal location seems to be like that. Feast or famine. Still have the SE flow working, so a seabreeze will work it all into MORE storms and rains, I am sure. It is rather sunny now, for a change! :sun:
