Regardless whether or not we get development in the western Caribbean/southern GOM by next week rain chances across the peninsula will be near average for the most part for our daily spotty afternoon thunderstorms now that the mid level ridge has moved away from our area and surface dewpoints in the 70s along with afternoon heating I would say our rainy season is here. With the forecasted mostly light easterly flow over the next few days it looks like the biggest chance for afternoon thunderstorms will be from the interior areas towards the west coast of the Peninsula, lower chances for the immediate eastern coastal area of FL.

definitely an early start to the rainy season this year with the big storms tending to stack on the western side of the peninsula late in the day. last year was remarkably wet for the west coast and it's starting out the same this year except even earlier. I never tire of watching seabreeze/outflow induced convection. For the weather geek it is the most wonderful time of the year. Overall the Rainy Season tends to start for Florida in general around the mid/late May timeframe so if anything it is not much of an earlier start. But compared to the last two years where all the thunderstorm activity focused more towards the East coast of FL that is probably why this year seems like an earlier start since it is the other way around the Thunderstorm activity this year focusing on the Inland and West coast areas vs. the last two years.

It also seems that the back-door cool front that was mentioned in the NWS Miami Discussion several days ago has made it's way through and brought in lower than average Dew Points for this time of year. My current Dew Point here in West Palm Beach, FL is 62° with Humidity of 58%!

Yeah the High Pressure axis located just off the Mid Atlantic region has really given our region relatively comfortable weather the past couple of days in Jax. Max temps only reaching the lower 80s and overnight mins in the lower 60s with easterly breezes off the Atlantic preventing temps to reach 90 or above.

However, things look to change possibly with a return of heat and humidity and increasing rain chances back in here and statewide come Thursday and right into this weekend. Uncertainty abounds in the forecast going into the weekend as we watch statewide what potentially may evolve down in the Bay of Campeche.

I should clarify my early start declaration: it is an early start in my region (pinellas county)...we usually start getting reliable rains starting about June 10. this was one of the wetter Mays in this region and a good deal of the water that fell was seabreeze convection induced. That is quite unusual. I recognize that the rainy season kicks in sooner inland and south so i should have specified.

Yep NDG. I saw the GFS runs depicting what you point out. Now, I truly think now that it appears the summer rain season likely has gotten underway.

We are in for some potential of some strong thunderstorms this weekend as a couple of MCS moving down southeastward on the eastern side of a mid/upper ridge over the South Central U.S. will move into this region throughout this weekend. We just missed out on the first of those, which moved through just north of the Jax area and moved off the SC coast very early this morning.

I'll believe it when I see it. So far here in West Palm Beach, FL it's been pretty much dry since the official start of the rainy season, basically May all together was dry despite being able to get just over 2.5 inches of rain for the month which was below average. Hopefully what you are saying is true though cause lakes are dried up looking and lawns are starting to look crunchy brown with the summer heat being back. This is definitely the complete opposite of the last two years where rainfall was extremely common here in SE FL.

I'll believe it when I see it. Yes, easterly flow did not favored SE coastal FL during the month of May with most of the rainfall staying inland and into the west coast of FL.
GFS is still persistent with a trough of low pressure to set home over the GOM pulling in at least much deeper moisture from the tropics despite if we see tropical development or not for next week which may benefit most of the Peninsula, but as always inland areas will always get the most rains.

Been a rather interesting past 36-48hrs. with rain persistantly moving in along the coast during the daytime here in coastal Palm Beach County. According to local mets this is an ULL and should not develop into anything tropical.

We had a damaging thunderstorm here in Boca Raton today. Id say winds in excess of 60mph.. we lost a coconut palm tree and part of our fence, also tore four panels from our screen enclosure.
