Look towards the gulf and EPAC in combination for rain.

Yep I'm finally beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. The southern half of TX should see our best rain chances in over a month early next week.

I know the EPAC isn't helping matters right now. But every big ACE EPAC season in Sept/Oct has yielded a great number of fantastic wet Falls for us. 2002, 2009, 2015, 2018 all provided during El Nino. Banking on 2023 flipping that switch soon.

Yeah I'm thinking we should see some enhanced moisture from the active EPAC by October. That's when we normally see those recurving storms. Some big floods have occurred during that month during El Nino events.

If the EPAC remains active through that period then you can probably forget about anything of significance getting into the Gulf this year.

Not as a physical cyclone. But the weather broader pattern that recurves EPAC systems also draws in gulf moisture at the lower levels. Often that benefits more of the state than a small swath say in deep south Texas. In dry, hot summer years, you can almost never count on the Atlantic to bring us relief, it rarely happens.

Well at least the models are looking a little more encouraging for Southeast TX next week. Hoping for it to trend wetter and more widespread.

Radar showing a small storm popped up near Kopperl, shifting to a smattering of some showers from west of Meridian to almost Hillsboro. Cloudtops out the window seem to confirm.

Seem like wildfire producers more than anything, not much coverage with rainfall. Doesn't look like anything is going to pop where I'm at. Still made it to 105F today.

18z gfs has a decent backdoor front in the long range. Not much precip but a few days in the upper 80s before things moderate. Hopefully it’s not gone next run but I’m not holding my breath

We're really getting to a point now where we are truly desperate for rain. Texas has declared a wildfire disaster declaration and Louisiana has declared a state of emergency due to the dry and hot weather conditions. People are being evacuated from homes in Sabine Parish, Louisiana due to a spreading wildfire. I also learned from my family that there was a field fire close to home that almost got out of control back in Jefferson County today. Multiple fire trucks had to be dispatched to stop the flames. I think that fire danger is probably at or near record levels currently in this area, especially with the surge of population in Texas. With more homes and more people, the risk of a large fire breaking out will only increase.

Mid August and I have the windows open... The juxtaposition between here and Texas especially south of DFW is just crazy

DFW has recorded a temperature below 80 for the first time in 377 hours. And we have lunatics on this board cheering the warmth.

Stayed below 90 yesterday. 67 this morning. Felt great but unfortunately as always, the heat returns toward the end of the week.

Summer 2023 gets its place in the record brooks. Just in time before the cool front.

DFW breaks record for longest duration above 80 degrees

On Monday morning, DFW broke the record for the longest duration of temperatures at or above 80 degrees F.

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth said the current stretch of temperatures over 80 degrees started at 8 a.m. on July 30. At 7 a.m. on Aug. 14, we reached a new record of 359 hours of temperatures above 80 degrees. The old record of 358 hours was set 25 years ago -- from 8 a.m. July 18, 1998, until 6 a.m. Aug. 2, 1998.

Enjoying the cooler temps but see a 113 on the GFS for next Monday. The temps seem to have been running a couple degrees below the GFS predictions though. The above 80 streak was awful.

The last few runs of the GFS continue to look very bleak for much, if any, rain across most of Texas for the next 2+ weeks. Maaaaybe coastal/STX gets something from a gulf system, but even that is in question.

El Niño ? Where? I agree Yukon. I’ve never seen anything like this. It’s unbearable… it’s probably not but it seems worse than 2011.
