Is winter over in Florida?

#1 Postby Scorpion » Mon Feb 11, 2008 3:31 pm

I don't see any long range forecasts hinting at another big cold shot anytime soon, and its already mid-February. I was hoping for the coldest temps of the season this month but it looks pretty warm so far.

Depends on what part of peninsula you are talking...the "Average Last Frost Date" gives some indication of what level of cold outbreak can stlll be expected...past the 'last frost date' in the southern peninsula already and in about 2 weeks it will be past the average date in the Tampa & Orlando areas.

Well the ground hog saw his shadow on ground hog day so this means 6 more weeks of winter. Maybe shorter then that in Fla. Keep in mind that spring training is coming.

Boy after that beautiful weekend we just had I can't wait for Spring! We might have a few more cool fronts , especially up here in the panhandle, but the pattern is obviously trending warmer.

Florida is nice compared to a place where it's nothing but overcast skies for weeks on end and cold winds down to -27C. It affects you pretty harshly.

Well I guess old man winter still has some fight in him, we struggled to get out of the 40's today up here in the panhandle. We have a freeze tonight.

Also, with an average temp for the month to date in Miami of 74.6 deg (6+ deg above normal), we are on target for one of the warmest February's on record!!! (Warmest was 74.9 deg). This is closer to the mean temp for April!!!

for some reason, link isn't going directly to tab....at link below, refer to left side where they have the outline of titles...go to General Climate Summary/Temperature/Monthly Temperature Listings/Average..click on "Average"..lists actual temps by month from 1948-present
