Slow moving thunderstorms with very heavy rain produced urban and flash flooding across part of east-central Wisconsin during the evening of July 30. The storms developed ahead of a strong upper level low and associated cold front moving southeast into a warm, moist air mass. Dew points approached 70 deg F along a southwest to northeast axis across Wisconsin. Late afternoon and early evening storms produced isolated large hail before an east-west boundary became established in the Appleton/Menasha area, providing a focus for training thunderstorms and the resultant flooding. The highest measured rainfall was 6.50 inches in Darboy (Calumet county), including 3 inches in one hour. NWS radar rainfall estimates were in the 5 to 7+ inch range in the hardest hit areas.
Menasha is extreme NE quadrant of Winnebago County.
