Lake Okeechobee rebounds

This is great news. The lake level has continued to slowly and steadily rise. Currently, the water table has increased to 10.34 feet, which is slightly higher than the 10.27 feet recorded on April 5, 2008. Last year, the water levels dropped further throughout the dry season. I think the "exceptionally dry" warnings for this year have been overblown, and we should enter the rainy season over the next several weeks. It definitely has not been abnormally dry across the region, and precipitation has been finally affecting the Lake Okeechobee region and Kissimmee River sources upstream. The "drought" was largely manufactured by the SFWMD's massive 2006 releases from the lake. Additionally, I have never understood the lack of year-round water restrictions in south Florida. My lawn remained lush without irrigation even in the dry season, so the excessive wasteful practices of golf courses and residences during the rainy season is unnecessary. I rarely water my lawn during the rainy season.

Yeah MiamiensisWx, I never understood why people leave their sprinklers on during the rainy season, especially if it is during a week after seeing a good couple inches of rain. Or when people wash their cars right before they would drive around on a forecasted rainy day or week.

My sprinklers are off! Most of the penninsula got a good soaking rain lastnight. Definately a wet spring thus far. :D
