This question is about ground level ozone

#1 Postby Cowhide » Sun May 18, 2008 11:42 pm

I live in southern California, and today the highest peaks of OZONE according to the airnow.gov website were UNHEALTHY FOR SENSITIVE GROUPS

But I was outside the entire day, it was very warm in the inland valleys at 99F, but the visibility looked pretty good, except for a distant white haze. The mountains were visible, the sky was not gray, brown or looked dirty but somehow the air quality level was 110 ppb so why?

Can ground level ozone be invisible? is my question

Yes, Ozone can be invisible. The smog haze is due to aerosols and particulates which make things visible. With offshore flow the salt particles that form much of the haze are blown out to sea but the ozone results from the UV breakdown of auto emissions among other things.

sorry for the late reply.

so in other words, the haze/smog that we see(visible), is from (particulate matter) (PM2.5) and not so much from ozone?
