Second International Severe Weather Film Festival

#1 Postby P.K. » Thu Aug 21, 2008 4:39 pm

I hope it is ok to post this here. The film festival was good fun last time so maybe someone on here could win it this time. Mark Sudduth came close to winning the first film festival.

If you are interested in entering a film then please can you e-mail Paul Domaille of the International Journal of Meteorology at the address listed below. Good luck. :D

Amazingly it is coming up on two years since the inaugaral Film Festival was held. It was decided to make it a biennial event because Severe weather films aren't that plentiful.

The Festival will take place at TORRO's annual Autumn conference, in Oxford, England, jointly promoted by TORRO and The International Journal of Meteorology. To make the event worthwhile we really need 5 or more entries. I have been promised 3 up to now so desperately need at least 2 more. Films must be produced by amateur film makers and be of reasonable length (i.e. not a 5 minute clip). The winner will receive the perpetual pewter salver with the possibility of an additional prize if we can get sufficient entries and a sponsor.

If your film is available to purchase you can also get a free review in the IJMet.

Remember, the film must feature severe weather, but this can be of any kind. The inaugaral winners, Greg Stumpf and Jim Ladue produced a stunning compilation of US Tornadoes, the runner up, Mark Sudduth's production was an exciting coverage of a seasons Hurricanes. What will it be this time ??

Any potential entrants please e-mail me at paul@ijmet.org and I will be able to answer any queries.

I have been asked to pass this message on.

Regretably we have had to postpone the Film Festival for twelve months due to insufficient entries. We had quite a few people showing interest and even offering films but they never quite got round to posting them ! My thanks to the one UK entrant that did.

I'll get in early here and say that I can now accept entries for the 2009 International Severe Weather Film Festival, please e-mail paul@ijmet.org for further info.

The TORRO Autumn conference is going ahead as normal on the 4th October and has some good speakers lined up and, may yet be some severe Wx clips shown.

Cheers,

Paul D
