SE Texas heat sets records - Nation's highest temp Thursday!

#1 Postby southerngale » Sat Jun 04, 2011 12:42 am

Wow! We never have the extreme for the nation, hot or cold.

Southeast Texas heat sets records

SOUTHEAST TEXAS - The blistering Southeast Texas heat is setting records and in one city the temperature Thursday was the nation's highest.

It was 105 degrees at the Big Thicket Visitors Center in Kountze. That was the highest temperature in the nation Thursday.

KFDM Chief Meteorologist Greg Bostwick says he can't recall any other instance in his 30+ years at KFDM when a temperature reading in Southeast Texas has been an extreme for the nation-highest or lowest.

In Wildwood the temperature reached 104 degrees.

It was 102 degrees in Beaumont. Many other cities across the area most likely set records as well.

A ridge of high pressure sitting directly over Southeast Texas caused the record-setting heat. That ridge will move slightly Friday and allow the temperature to drop several degrees.

Two contract employees at the ExxonMobil Refinery in Beaumont are recovering from heat-related illness.

The two men, who work for Leak Sealers, were working on a scaffold outside and wearing suits that covered their bodies, including their faces.

The safety director at the company says the men were overcome by the heat.

They were taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth where doctors treated them for heat stress.

I would be glad to give you the extremes. We don't want them!

No thanks, wall cloud. It was just surprising that a little ol' town in Southeast Texas had the nation's highest temp when Arizona is a state. Not to mention Central and West Texas.
